surgery date
Hi there! I'm surprised no one answered you yet, so I'll give it a shot. I just had surgery this past Tuesday (9/2) and it wasn't too bad! Here's my experience...
My surgery was the 1st one in the morning, so I had to arrive at 5:00am. There was a bunch of pre-op "stuff" the doctors and nurses did. I was weighed in, had blood drawn, had to give a urine sample ( they did a pregnancy test), I was given a blood thinner (shot in the lower right abdomen) which didn't hurt a bit. It was a tiny needle and I barely felt it. Then I was wheeled into the waiting area where my IV was inserted and the anesthesiologist asked me a bunch of questions, as did my surgeon. All of this took about 2-1/2 hours. there was a lot of waiting in between. Then the anesthesiologist gave me something to "take the edge off" and then I was wheeled into the OR. I don't remember anything after that! I woke up with an oxygen mask on and then I was immediately taken to x-ray. They take X-rays and do a fluro test to make sure there are no leaks and to have documentation of the placement of the band and port. The x-ray was hard because you're still half out of it, and they want you to turn on your sides. The only immediate pain I had was a muscle spasm where the port was placed. Incisions didn't hurt a bit. Then they put me in the recovery area and a nurse was constantly asking me if I was ok and giving me morphine through my IV. After about an hour I was wheeled back into my room.
I went home the next morning, and as soon as I got home I put a heating pad on my belly, and took a dose of my pain killer and went to sleep. when I woke up, I felt great! Almost no pain at all and haven't had any since.
Make sure you walk, walk, walk as much as possible. It's not easy, but it REALLY helps with the gas and bloating. I'm a week out and I'm still burping and passing gas alot. But every time I do I feel better and better!
So I hope that helps!!! I know you're nervous, but it's really not bad at all!! Let me know if you have any other questions. It seems like not too many people respond on this board.
