steps to surgery
HI all. I have been looking at this site for some time now. I recently decided to contact a surgeon regarding wls. I had a consultation on 7/8 - an appt. with a dietician on 7/15 - an appt. with a psychiatrist on 7/19 - and will have an appt. with the surgeon on Friday, 7/25. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the deal with insurance approval. I have BCBS of MN and the surgery is covered if it is medically necessary (as confirmed by nurse on first consult.) I was wondering if they are working on it now that i have all the precertification requirements fulfilled. I am seeing Dr. Way in MHC, NC. I've never dealt with insurance companies for preapproval before. Do I have to do anything else? I am rambling -- sorry. I just don't want to get my hopes up and have them blow up in my face after all these appts. Any help would be appreciated.
I filled out a long form for the doctor, and had to supply them with some medical records documenting some co-morbidities, as well as documenting that my weight for the last 5 years would qualify me for surgery. The doctor's office submitted it, along with the psych and nutritionist reports. I had approval in 3 days. You shouldn't have to do anything, assuming your surgeon's office is on the ball.

I am also beginning the journey to have WLS. My insurance is Cigna POS and they require medical necessity before approving the surgery. My doctor asked what type of info should she put on the letter to make sure we get the approval first time. Does anyone know? I am anxious and ready to go. Please let me know as soon as possible.
