We've finally decided to try for a baby. My first, I'll be 30 next month. I'm wondering how difficult it will be.... I'm on seasonale and last night will be my last pill and I'll be calling my gyno Monday morning. I'm apprehensive as the one I've had for the past 7-9 years has moved and I have a new one, and I'm worried she won't have much knowledge about bariatric surgery and pregnancy... the unique requirements.
Anyone quit birth control pills and get pregnant quickly? I'm crazily hoping it's fast so it works with my school schedule, But I'm fine if it doesn't. :) (Nursing school is hard!)
I'm curious about how much vitamins were increased and if extras were added, anything specific unique to us to watch out for etc. I have PCOS so I expect this to be a rough journey.
Thanks!
Hi--So dilemma you have there. In my opinion the weight loss should probably come first. The surgery is a tool to help you lead a more healthy life and who needs to be healthier than a new mom. One thing that's interesting is the benefits of surgery will more than likely aid you in achieving what you want---a baby. WLS has been known to make women more fertile and assist in healthier pregnancies. Good luck with whichever you to choose to tackle first--love and blessings to you.

A few things to consider:
Many people find that their fertility goes WAY up after reaching their goal weight. I got pregnant on my first cycle after having my IUD out post-op!
If you lose weight before getting pregnant, you will likely have a MUCH easier and healthier pregnancy.
Trying to recover from WLS with an infant or toddler can be VERY difficult. You'll be on lifting restriction for at least 6 weeks post-op. Many people are very tired for the first few MONTHS after surgery, which makes it really hard to care for a kid.

I have been wanting another child for a couple years now with no luck. I have started my journey for the gastric sleeve surgery. Currently trying to meet all my insurqnce requirements. I am 36 years old and my husband is 40. I am worried that I will have to wait to long to get pregnant after surgery with out clock ticking. I can not decide wether to have the surgery and then a baby or keep trying for a baby and then have surgery. I am so confused I really don't know what to do.
I am 11 weeks pregnant, 12 months post op. I was told to stay the course, keep my carbs down low and not to worry about needing calories or carbs, just protein. I still am not at goal so there are calories to be had...on my rear end.

Congrats on your baby!
I've found myself in a similar spot, I can eat a LOT more than I could pre-op. There are a couple of reasons for this:
- Straying from the post-op, protein-forward diet-- we can eat a LOT more carbs than we can meat!
- Pouch/sleeve fully matured, naturally larger capacity than the early post-surgery days
Are you seeing someone for your PPD? I think that's going to be the first step. Getting your mental health under control makes a HUGE difference. I have bipolar and had a lot of trouble with my depression and some OCD when my son was tiny, and when I felt like crap I wasn't at all motivated to get my eating under control.
The first step is to start logging all of your food, including snacks, nibbles, and the like. Be honest, and see where you're at, even if you're eating total crap. (And let's face it, when you have a tiny human and you're hardly sleeping, it happens!)
Once you know where you're at, you can start working towards better eating habits. At several years post-op, a good goal would be 1000 calories, 60 - 80g protein, and under 40g carbs. (If you're breastfeeding, you'll probably need to add a few more calories; that's a question for your OBGYN.)
I'm almost 2 years out from my pregnancy and I'm STILL working on getting the bad habits that crept in during pregnancy and my son's early days under control. Feel free to PM if you ever want to chat!

I was insanely picky while Pregnant and probably not eating as healthy as I should be! LOL I found a great cookbook however that really helped me throughout my pregnancy! It was Called Full Belly: Good Eats for a Healthy Pregnancy. It was amazing and I totally recommend it to everyone (Pregnant or not).
Twert80,
Hi! How soon did you start feeling sick? I'm 18mos post VSG and we just started trying. Had my IUD out 2 weeks ago, just as I was starting to get period symptoms. Ovulated last week and I've been nauseous for 2 days now...?
Im 5.5 months pregnant and 8 months post op. I was told to aim for 1200 cals a day with 70-100g of protein a day 2 fruits and a starch at every meal.. i still cant get to 1200 and have lost 34 lbs. until today... i gained 4 since last week (finally). I recommend talking to you nutrition team
