Just 2 months shy of hitting my 1 year surgiversary, I found out I was pregnant... with twins. Not only that, but it was considered a high risk pregnancy because, being identical, they shared a placenta. I had to see the doctor every other week with ultrasounds at each one, then every week as I got closer to my due date.
The caloric intake my doctor gave me for twins was close to 3,000/day... I was lucky to hit 1,800 on most days, but the babies not only survived, but thrived. The pregnancy was text book, no complications, no issues... they went full term and I delivered via a scheduled C-section in November of 2012. One was 5lbs, the other 6lbs, which is great for twins... anything under 5lbs means an automatic stay in the NICU, so we were relieved to avoid that.
As for weight loss, I had been stalled when I got pregnant, so the fact that I wasn't dropping weight wasn't a huge surprise anymore. I didn't start gaining at all until the last couple of months and it was only about 15lbs total.
However, after delivering, I slipped back into my old habits again. I had stretched out my stomach (I had the VSG) to the point where I could eat like a normal person again because I had to for the babies. I should have done the 5 day pouch test once my body was mine again, but I didn't... I went the other direction and gained back 40 of the 75 I had lost post-op.
The twins are a year and a half now, and I'm back on the wagon... on day 3 of the pouch test and I've lost 5lbs. This is the first time I've been on the OH website since 2011, so I'm hoping that getting back into the groove of talking to people who're on a similar journey will keep me on the straight and narrow.
As for the doctor v. midwife question, that's really a personal preference... I would recommend meeting with both and see what makes the most sense for you. I went with a doctor for my first son because the way I thought about it, if something goes wrong, the doctor steps in, so might as well start with one. With the 2nd pregnancy, I would have used a midwife, but once I found out it was twins and high risk, I didn't have a choice... I had to see a specialist, no midwife would even accept a patient in my situation.
Good luck with whatever you choose and congratulations!

This is a really weird question, but since there are many on this board I'm hoping maybe one other person has had this done. 9 and 10 years ago I had a vaginal sling procedure done for what they thought was stress incontinence. That was 5 years before gastric bypass (so I'm even wondering with the 130lb loss I had if its even working anyways).... well now I'm 14 weeks pregnant and I have two OBs (including the high risk dr I saw today) tell me I'm going to have to have a C-section because of the vaginal sling. I'm ok with having a C-section if its medically necessary to save mine or the baby's life, but don't agree with automatically scheduling one. I have had horrible times with recovery after various surgeries, etc.....
Hoping someone on here has some advice.

Forgot to mention... With this pregnancy, I gained a total of 32 lbs. This was the most I've gained in any of my pregnancies, before or after surgery. My first post op pregnancy, I gained 18. As of today (baby is a week old) I'm down 20 lbs, back in my size 2 jeans, and feeling like I've mostly got my body back. I am exclusively breastfeeding, so I'm pretty sure a significant amount of that last 12 lbs is residing on my chest. I'm hoping some of it stays this time because they were looking pretty deflated after my last baby. Just wanted to add this since I know people who come here to read posts are often most concerned with weight gain/loss.
Awesome brith story! Kudos to you for going naturally. She is a cutie pie! Congrats to you and your family.
Oh she is adorable, congrats and glad things went as planned for the most part
Second vbac was a success! Labor started on the night of my due date. I stayed home until I thought I was leaking fluid. The contractions were not very bad at that point, but my doc didn't want me at home too long with the vbac, so off we went at about 3am. All of the doctors and nurses were very supportive of my decision to vbac, and my wishes for no interventions. We walked laps all night and at about 10am I let them break my water. I labored naturally until baby was born at 4 pm on March 20th. Only pushed about 5 times! To those who's doctors think size is everything, this baby was almost a pound and a half heavier (and the same length) as my c section baby that got stuck with 3 hrs of pushing. It was hard work, but I'm proud of myself for sticking to my guns for a natural delivery.
I love waiting for the delivery room surprise, so it was exciting to hear my husband get to make the "it's a girl" announcement after the grueling process of a natural labor. Lyla Elizabeth is a week old today and is such a good baby! I'm kind of waiting for the honeymoon to end because she is doing so well. She is already doing just one feeding at night and sleeps a ton during the day too. I've never seen a newborn sleep this much (I'm certainly not complaining though). My daughter (5) is so excited to have a little sister and my son (2) is warming up to her nicely. He is doing far better than I had hoped. Overall, we're all doing really well!
