I will be three years post op in September....I am pregnant with my first baby at 41 (opps) I have two great step kids and we are all excited. My first trimester was a breeze....no morning sickness at all! However now in my second sometimes when I eat I get terrible stomach pains....similar to over eating post op. The only relief I get is to make myself sick and lay down. Is this surgery related?

My doctor said 1 year. The biggest risk, he said, is that your system will be taxed from the weight loss-- liver working extra hard, that sort of thing-- and you don't want to be dealing with that AND making your body work extra-hard during pregnancy.

Hi there! I got pregnant 6 months post op and have had no issues so far. I didn't have any morning sickness just sour stomach a few times that I managed by eating more fruits and veggies and carbs were a lifesaver in the first trimester. Once second trimester came around and I could eat more of my normal foods I lost some weight. I'm almost 20 weeks and up 6lbs right now. If you find out you are pregnant make sure you listen to your body and take your prenatals! And rest! Keep us posted!
Hmmm... interesting, I think part of it is with the VSG there is less worry about malnutrition as you don't have any malabsorption happening. I think part of waiting too is it is healthier for you and the baby to be at a smaller weight.

I'm considering getting my lap band revised to the sleeve b/c I've been having some complications but we're planning to get pregnant again in the near future. So we saw my surgeon yesterday to discuss the revision and he said that I only had to wait THREE MONTHS post-op to get pregnant!! I have never heard such a short time . . . I know there are alot of people who do get pregnant at 6 or 8 months post-op and do fine but I also know most doctors are still recommending 12-18 months. So I was really surprised at his answer. I mean, I already plan to wait at least 6-8 months post-op to get pregnant, but 3 months seems a little crazy.
Anyone else been told they don't have to wait at least a year?

Figuring out how and what to eat, especially with morning sickness, was a big challenge for me (I got pregnant 13 months after surgery). In the first trimester, carbs were about all I could handle, and that's a big change from my previous eating plan! In the second trimester, I've been fighting with hunger since I want to eat EVERYTHING, and that's been a bit of a mental struggle.
Seeing the numbers on the scale go up again has been kind of freaky as well. I've gained 22lb in 27 weeks, and though my head knows it's for a good cause (and I can totally lose it again after I give birth), it's still hard to face sometimes.
Make an appointment with your surgeon if you find out that you're pregnant, that way you can come up with a plan for how much you should eat and how much weight you should gain/lose during the next 9 months. Make sure your OB knows about your surgery as well, and he/she can provide support in that area as well.

Congrats!! I also got pregnant super quick, way faster than I expected. Crazy, huh?
I had morning sickness in the first trimester-- queasy ALL day, but I never threw up. That lasted until week 13 or 14, I think? I let myself have some carbs, usually a slice of whole-grain bread with peanut butter, in the morning and it helped to settle my stomach quite a bit. The fatigue let up a bit in the second trimester, but it came right back at about week 24 and I suspect it will only get worse. But that's fairly normal, according to my OB.
Does your OB have experience with WLS patients? It might be worth finding one who is, if that's not the case. My doc has had several patients in the past, and it's been very helpful to have her understanding of what's normal. I'd also suggest checking in with your bariatric surgeon to get his/her advice on any changes to your current routine. Mine suggested upping calories from 1200 (maintenance) to about 1800, and it's worked well so far.
Feel free to PM if you need a fellow preggo buddy! You can do this!

It took me three years of trying and one surgery to remove endometriosis to get preggo with my now 4 1/2 year old son. Here I am at 35, we literally tried one time in June to get pregnant and here I am, 7 weeks along and scared as hell! I found out rather early because I went to he ER with yet another kidney stone and needed medication. They could give me none..surprise 'you are pregnant!'. Luckily this stone passed. The ER doc needs to be slapped in the face because she had me petrified I had an etopic because nothing was showed up on ultra sound...duh! I hadnt even missed my period yet! Three sonograms later you can see a gestational sac and slight yolk sac. My next one is next week.
I am freaking out! I thought I would have some time to think about it. Oh well.
I am having some belly pain. It shoots down my legs. I am thinking scar pain. I've have three laparoscopic, endometriosis, gall bladder and vsg. Also a c-section that was very badly infected. So, yeah I'm freaking out a bit. I do have high anxiety especially regarding my son. He has a life threatening food allergy. He is hyper sensitive to peanut and his school seems behind on educating staff and students on the topic...argg!
Anyway I'm open to any comments or any advice to my pregnancy. My current weight is 196. I am havingexhaustion and morning sickness(not as severe as my first pregnancy). I'm hoping this will pass by next month or earlier.
Thank you
Hello, I was wondering for those who got pregnant before 1 year post op what things did you face being that we are post op WLS surgery, what were your struggles? I am 7 months post op and I’m not sure if I am pregnant but will find out soon it definitely will be an oops if I am. Thanks
Everyone's different but I felt terrible for about 6 days. My husband took her to the babysitter during the day. I pretty much slept off and on all day. I would plan on having your mom help with baths and such just in case you don't feel well in the evening. Good luck and I hope you have an easy recovery!
