When I was pregnant with son in 2006 I flew to Las Vegas at 6 1/2 months pregnant.  I had no issues at all, besides being freaked out ( my first time flying).

Topic: Question for anyone out there...could be TMI, read with caution

So I am 37 weeks and yesterday felt like total crap!  Rested from time I got home until I woke up this AM.  Here is my question...last night I noticed that my private area is extremely swollen and on one side when I wipe I can feel like a hardness.   Yesterday the baby cramped in a ball all day causing most of my discomfort.  This morning I am feeling alot of cramping in my back, but like I am getting ready to start my period.   My first baby wasn't like this, never had this type of swelling, and I figured out what labor was but last time wasn't in my lower back.   Anyone felt like this?   Thinking it's my body preparing for labor but just wanted to know if anyone else experience the swelling, etc.  I am being very aware of how I am feeling because this baby is transverse and dr said not to let myself go into active hard labor before coming to the hospital....

Any experiences, or thoughts would be appreciated!  Stacey

Not to scare you, but to be honest....here is my story. I have flown twice while pregnant. The first time at about 18 weeks, 3 hr flight, no issues. I recently took a business trip for the 2nd flight.I was 30 weeks and had the approval of my OB. It was a 1.5 flight on a corporate jet so lots of room, etc. Nonetheless, I still ended up developing a blood clot in my left leg/foot. It was a scary situation. It can happen to anyone, but while pregnant, the risk is higher. The main thing while flying is to try to get up and move as much, and as often as you can, stretch/massage your legs/lower extremities, stay hydrated, etc. If you notice signs such as swelling/pain limited to one side, redness, fever, high blood pressure, headache, etc notify your doctor/OB immediately. I also was required to have a medical release/note to fly. Not all airlines/pilots require but better to be safe than sorr.

I'm not sure that pregnancy after weight loss surgery is THAT much different than before.  You probably want to get your vitamin levels checked out before you get pregnant and then monitor them throughout (my midwife suggested once a trimester).  You might have difficulty gaining weight during your pregnancy.  Also, you probably won't want to do the glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes (the drink has upwards of 50 grams of sugar in it and can cause major dumping).  Before I got pregnant, I went to a preconception check up with a midwife and she sent me to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist just to be safe.  The maternal-fetal medicine doctor said that sometimes there can be problems with intestinal adhesions in RNY patients, because when their uterus grows, it pushes their intestines out of the way and if there are adhesions, then you will need an operation to fix the adhesions.  The good news is that apparently babies born to women after they have an RNY are healthier in the long run than those born to the same mother before she had an RNY, so any baby you have after the surgery has better odds at being healthier.  Oh yeah, one more thing that I've personally noticed is that as my belly grows, I'm experiencing more restriction, which makes eating meals a little more challenging.
