I will 1 yr out from having the VSG and my implanon is due to come out before I hit my official 1 yr, what I am wondering is I was 429 when I had surgery and am down to 307 we are wanting to have more kids but I am concerned about my weight, surgery and everything. When I had my son I was 265 and with my daughter I was in the 300's and I did fine with them but I just want to hear from others who have had surgery and got pregnant. Has anyone been in the 300's when they got pregnant following surgery?
I can answer your question from a timing perspective, but can't offer up much help on the weight side of it. I was a light weight going in to surgery so by 6 months I was almost at my goal weight of reaching a "normal" BMI. I decided to go off birth control, and about a minute later, I was pregnant, lol. I had a super easy pregnancy (my second, but first post-op) and didn't have any trouble with nutrition or hydration. I gained about 18 lbs during my pregnancy which was pretty similar to my pre-op pregnancy. By the time the baby was 2 weeks old, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight (and jeans) and continued to drop another 10 over the next six months. He is 2 today, and is a happy healthy little guy. I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant with my 3rd (second since surgery). I'm the lightest I've ever been this time, but I've gained a bit faster, so I'm not sure what to make of that. Anyway, that was my experience. Goog luck!
Sure you can get pregnant 300lbs as you stated you have, but better for you and the baby if you did not. After having WLS why wouldn't you finish losing your weight before getting pregnant? 300lbs is still a very extremely unhealthy weight to be even when you are not pregnant. Why wouldn't your husband want you to get as healthy as possible. I understand that coming from 429lbs that 300 may not seem like too much but it is and totally unsafe. The babies inside of us stand more chance of obesity if we are obese during our pregancy. Wouldn't you want to give your kids better by being a healthy normal weight. 2+ kids is a lot to chase around for the next 18+ years - will you be fit enough to do it at 300lbs plus pounds? Chances are you will gain and not lose during and after the pregnancy. The sleeve is purely restrictive and does loosen up over time.
Now if you are over 35 years without any kids at all, I can see risking it for a pregnancy but you have 2 and mixed sexes. That is a dream that many of us have and have not obtained.
I wish you the best.
From the weight perspective I would recommend waiting until you're closer to a healthier weight. It's hard to switch your frame of mind from losing to doing anything you can to gain an appropriate amount of weight and grow a healthy baby. I was down 120 pounds from 385 to 265 when I got pregnant with my son and only 5 months post op. I lost 35 pounds in the first half of my pregnancy and gained only 10 back, but it was so hard to see the scale go up even that little bit after having been so focused on losing for so long. Then *surprise* 5 months after he was born, I was pregnant again. This time I lost 21 before I started gaining and have gained back 11 or so of that at this point (I am 29 weeks). It's even harder seeing the scale go up this time because it's doing so at a much faster rate than it did last time. I got within 5 pounds of ONEderland and it sucks going backwards now, but the health of my baby is much more important than my vanity. I am 2 years out now and getting to goal is going to be much harder after this baby is born than it would have been had I not become pregnant so soon after surgery. I feel like I wasted my honeymoon phase. I don't regret having my children, don't get me wrong, but I would have liked to be much closer to goal before being pregnant.
