I obviously not far enough out to plan a pregnancy but it is my  plan when it's safe.  Just wondering what your experience was with pregnancy after RNY?

Were you considered high risk?

Vitamins different?

Did you have to take in more calories?

Did you still have morning sickness?

How far out from surgery were?

Were you still considered overweight when you conceived?

Thanks for the info!!

Were you considered high risk?
No, the RNY itself doesn't make you high risk but other health conditions might
Vitamins different?
Depends on if you have deficiency but most can get by with their regimen and adding a prenatal. I had to take extra iron for anemia.
Did you have to take in more calories?
300 extra is what's recommended
Did you still have morning sickness?
Yes with both pregnancies ... Worse with the 2nd
How far out from surgery were?
4.5 yrs post op with first and 9 with second
Were you still considered overweight when you conceived?
No I was at a healthy weight and "normal" BMI

Were you considered high risk?

Considering I was close to being AMA the first pregnancy and am with my current pregnancy (currently 35), I was/am higher risk. I still see a normal OB.

Vitamins different?

I'm taking extra prenatals, beyond that, no.

Did you have to take in more calories?

Not more than the 300 recommended by the OB. Do I stick to that -- kind of. I'm not the poster child of WLS, especially now.

Did you still have morning sickness?

Not my first pregnancy, not my current pregnancy. I am also the strange one who has never had a vomiting type stomach bug postop.

How far out from surgery were?

First pregnancy 4.5-5 years. This pregnancy, I am currently 15 weeks and 7.5 years postop, will be almost 8 years postop when I deliver.

Were you still considered overweight when you conceived?

Yes. BUT I lost 80% of my excess, and was probably never going to be considered "normal" BMI.

I did gain 60-65 pounds my first pregnancy, but lost all but ten of it within 6 months of delivering. (was about 185 until I conceived this most recent time) I expect to follow the same path this time, which would put me at 190-195 pounds after delivery and hopefully losing it again. I would LIKE to see my lowest, which was 165, but honestly, I'm happy with anything under 200, which is my point of no return/point that I know that I need to redouble weight loss efforts again. I do not plan on changing my diet drastically at this point until after I have delivered, and then only if the weight does not come off. I am trying to resume a schedule of walking 30 minutes per day, but it's easier said than done with my schedule.

The tough part of WLS is not the first year, it's those that follow.

Were you considered high risk?

No.

Vitamins different?

Yes, but not much. I stuck to my regular RNY vitamin regiment and added a prenatal on top of them.

Did you have to take in more calories?

Yes, but normally - if you're already eating a good amount of calories a day and if you're a normal weight you'll only need 200-300 more calories a day. 1w

Did you still have morning sickness?

Yes.

How far out from surgery were?

5 months post op when my first post op baby was conceived. 18 months post op when my second post op baby was conceived. Both oops babies. LOL

Were you still considered overweight when you conceived?

Yes - pre pregnancy weight during first post op pregnancy 265lb. Delivered at 240lb and was down to 225 by 2 weeks post partum. Pre pregnancy weight this time was 226lb, currently 212 at 22w5d. Got down to 203 before I started regaining what I lost in the first part of this pregnancy.
