IUI - Please share your experience

I haven't been on this board for months. I was just frustrated with the whole trying to conceive thing and infertility. So I just hung my hat up and moved on until I received a bill in the mail where my insurance didn't pay for one of my visits to my OBGYN. So I called the insurance company and was advised that my insurance only covers infertility treatments with an RE and not an OBGYN. OK. that is news to me I said you guys have covered all of the other appointments and she said that they probably coded it differently and I needed to call them and tell them to recode and then resend it. Then we started talking about my infertility benefits and she asked me if I was still trying or interested. I said no to both questions. Long story short by the time I got off the phone w/ her I had a referral to an RE and an appointment set.  That was a couple of months ago. Well today I had my first IUI. I had one follicle that was a 23. My husband's sperm was 13 million after being washed and the motility was 96. The nurse said all of this was great and now we just have to wait to test two weeks from now.  Can you please share your experience and has anyone conceived on the first try?

no big experience to share yet, but i had my first iui yesterday.  they said if i don't get my period by 8/8 to call and get blood test on 8/9.

a few questions for you...are you on prenatal vitamins?  they didn't put me on any, but did tell me my levels were great.  not big shock since i take all of my supplements regularly.  but i asked and they called one in for me.  of course now i'm over thinking it and  wondering why they didn't have me on them in the first place, so now i'm worried i may be taking in too much of something.

also, did they talk with you about 'what/what not to do?"  i'm surprised that no one has, my ob nor my fertility specialist.  i realize most people don't know the day they conceive, but i want to do the best i can in case i am pregnant or soon to be.  i've been doing a ton of reading recently so not overly concerned, but i have no idea how to coordinate the dietary needs of the baby with our own wls issues...which is what brought me back to the forums too...and yours was the very first post i saw.  :)

good luck to you!!

Hey,

My RE did tell me to start on some prenatal vitamins. She also gave me a list of what I couldn't eat such as certain types of fish, unpasteurized cheeses, only one 8oz cup  of caffeine a day and a list of other things. I don't have my list with me. If I go to the doctor then I have to tell them that I may be pregnant.. She said I can only take Tylenol. She also said I needed to take a pregnancy test in 2 weeks if its positive to come in for a blood test and if its negative to call them so we can discuss what I want to do for next month.

Fingers crossed for you!

I had my first IUI with Colmid and a trigger shot in June. I had three eggs one about a 22 and the other two was 19.  DF had about 13million in sperm post wa****hink the motility was in the high 80's...can't remember. Unfortunately,  It didn't work.

I didn't do 2nd  cycle in July for two reasons....I was going on vacation during my fertile week and after my 3 day blood test my dr told me my FSH level was very high and she suggested IVF cause my chances with IUI would be the same as BD'ing less than 5%!

So right now I'm re-grouping.  We don't have the 10,000 it would cost for IVF and my insurance doesn't cover it...only IUI.  As always I'm leaving it up to GOD but the news of a high FSH was not good.  I've been pregnant twice before but I miscarried both times.

Thanks for your response Windowsdown. I am so sorry for your losses. I can't even imagine.  I hope my first cycle works. It would be a great late birthday for me. However if it doesn't work then I won't be able to do the IUI next month because I will be on vacation.  Its a bummer. All this waiting, hoping and praying. IUI has such low success rates I wonder do a lot of people get pregnant after the first round?  Blowing a little baby dust to all of us.
