Gallstones and 25 weeks pregnant!!! Long (Sorry)
So, I'm 2 years post-op RNY and 25 weeks pregnant with my first baby. Last weekend I was having severe abdominal and back pain that lasted 11 hours. At first I thought it was gas pain, but after 6 or 7 hours, it became evident that it wasn't, so I called my midwife to see what to do. I didn't want to go to the ER on a Sunday evening (you know how long folks have to wait in the ER on nights and weekends!), so she had me come to Labor and Delivery to get checked out. The OB on duty ruled out anything pregnancy related and told me to follow up with my Bariatric Surgeon because she thought it was something related to my Gastric Bypass surgery. On Monday, I went in to my Surgeon's office and got an abdominal ultrasound, which revealed multiple gall stones and liver function tests that came back normal. We also discovered that I have mysteriously lost 7 pounds in the past week and a half (I had just visited my surgeon a week and a half ago for my 2-year check-up). I confirmed the weight loss on my scale at home. The surgeon doesn't understand the weight loss, because I have not been dieting, exercising, and haven't had any vomiting or diarrhea. At this point post-op, I am no longer on the" looser's bench." By that I mean, I my weight has been slowly creeping up over the past year and before this sudden weight loss, I put on 14 pounds with this pregnancy (my point is that the weight loss isn't because my eating is extremely restricted, like some folks). The surgeon doesn't want to operate on me while I'm pregnant and in the meantime has put me on an extremely low-fat diet to help prevent any more attacks. I'm going to see my midwife on Friday and they are going to do some blood sugar tests and also check my pancreas enzymes. Has anyone else dealt with gallstones while pregnant? If so, how did they treat them? Any ideas what may be causing the sudden, unexplained weight loss?
I had gallstones with my first pregnancy it was before I had wls it was 14 years ago. I just had to try to eat things that would not upset my stomach it was hard I was sick every day. I never lost any weight with it though so I don't know about that. I had my gall bladder removed two months after my son was born. Its realy strange cause I thought most wl doctors took you gall bladder out when they did your surgery.
