Baby not growing

About two weeks ago, I experienced some cramping and spotting, so I was scheduled for an ultrasound.  At that time, the baby should have been 7 weeks, but it measured 5 weeks, 6 days and had a heartbeat of 75 (heartbeat should have been over 100, I guess).

I had another ultrasound on Thursday and this time it was really hard to find the babe.  I was told there had been no growth, still 5 weeks, 6 days and a heartbeat of 75.

Of course, my first thought is that I'm not doing something right: not eating enough protein, experiencing too much stress, etc.

I guess my question is if this has ever happened to anyone and the outcome has turned out ok.  I doubt my RNY is to blame, as I am 20 months out and all my labs have been fine. But I still wonder.

What does the dr say? Have you had labs done to check hcg levels? I'm not 100% but if that number is increasing then i would assume that's good

The last time I had labs done was in Feb, before conception, and they were fine.  My surgeon's office doesn't want to check my labs again until late June/early July.  I haven't had any labs done to check hcg levels and I asked about that when I went for my second ultrasound.  I was told that those levels only really matter in the very first weeks but that after the heart beats, they become fairly meaningless.

So was your dr concerned? If you don't feel like your dr has eased your mind and answered your questions fully i would switch while your early. You have 9 more months and having trust and faith in your dr is important!!

Thank you for the advice.  He said that I had a 50% chance of a healthy pregnancy at this point.  Of course, if one were to rely on Google, the percentage would be much lower, as it is hard to find any positive stories with my current scenario.

He just kept stressing that there was nothing I did (or didn't do) to cause this issue and that it sometimes "just happens."  Of course, I want to blame myself.

Not sure about the growth, but a heartbeat this early is always a good sign.  Keep faith!  Good luck, keep us posted.

Thank you!  I've had no cramping or spotting this week, so I am trying to remain hopeful.

I think the waiting and not knowing is the hardest part.  I had two losses this winter and the wait to find out what was going to happen was almost harder to deal with than the actual loss once it happened.  Hoping for good news for you!

I'm sorry and I hope you have a good outcome. Hugs.

I agree with your doctor though, in case you do not get the outcome you'd like, do not blame yourself, he is right - it happens frequently and no one knows why.
