Thinking about having another child.
I'm not sure that pregnancy after weight loss surgery is THAT much different than before. You probably want to get your vitamin levels checked out before you get pregnant and then monitor them throughout (my midwife suggested once a trimester). You might have difficulty gaining weight during your pregnancy. Also, you probably won't want to do the glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes (the drink has upwards of 50 grams of sugar in it and can cause major dumping). Before I got pregnant, I went to a preconception check up with a midwife and she sent me to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist just to be safe. The maternal-fetal medicine doctor said that sometimes there can be problems with intestinal adhesions in RNY patients, because when their uterus grows, it pushes their intestines out of the way and if there are adhesions, then you will need an operation to fix the adhesions. The good news is that apparently babies born to women after they have an RNY are healthier in the long run than those born to the same mother before she had an RNY, so any baby you have after the surgery has better odds at being healthier. Oh yeah, one more thing that I've personally noticed is that as my belly grows, I'm experiencing more restriction, which makes eating meals a little more challenging.
Thanks for your information I have a friend that had a son after surgery and she had a few issues with the baby not really her. I didn't know if that was common or not. I was going to make an appointment for a check up before we tried I already started to take some folic acid along with my normal vitiams. I know I will have to see a doctor instead of a midwife I have had two c-sections before so I will proble have to have one again. I know its posible to do a v-back but I don't know who I feel about trying that. With an intestinal adhesion would they have to operate on you while you where pregnant.
I was high risk with my 2 pre wls babies since I had borderline hypertension and did develop pre-eclampsia with both boys who were fine but I delivered early with both (34 and 37weeks). And I had ongoing medical needs during both pregnancies mostly weight related.
I am 3 yrs past my RNY now and just gave birth last week to my 3rd child and had NO issues with the pregnancy. I technically was high risk this pregnancy but only due to being 40 so my OB didn't treat me any differently than a regular patient except I had bio-physical ultrasounds every week from week 36 on. This baby was born full term and almost 9 lbs so she is already sleeping much better than either of the boys did!
My vitamin levels were checked when I found out I was pregnant and twice during pg and were fine on my regular wls vitamin regime--my chewable multi vits do have folic acid in them. The only change we made was to double my iron when they checked it in January it was low--but that was a routine iron check since a lot of pg women's iron drops at that point in pg and doubling it fixed the problem.
So basically my post wls baby gave me a normal pg and I was able to wear regular maternity clothes even!
