My OB is concerned about my bypass and doesn't want me to do the orange drink test. They are saying there is another test to check your glucose levels. Anyone know what the second test consists of?

My first pregnancy they treated me as if I had gestational, all check up etc.  Checked blood sugars daily then every other day third trimester as things were looking normal.  This pregnancy since first one went so well, at 28 weeks, I went in ate an normal breakfast (think I had eggs and ham) and exactly one hour later they drew some blood.  Everything normal, and that was it.  No drinks, etc.  Some on here have done the drinks, but they ask, if you can handle eating 50 Jelly Beans without getting sick you can probably do drink, if that many would make you sick, so would the drink.  I knew there was no way esp as sick as I have been during this pregnancy.

Good Luck!

WIth my 1st pregnancy I did the glucose monitor for two weeks which involved finger sticks 4 times a day (once before breakfast and then after every meal). The machine tracked/charted the results and then the doctor was able to download them. With this pregnancy, I actually did the drink. Me personally, I do not always have issues with sugar and can tolerate pretty high levels (sadly) and being almost 10 years post op was willing to try. I did a lime flavored drink, same as orange in terms of grams. while fasting. Waited an hour, and then had a blood draw. I felt kinda queasy in the beginning but it passed after about 10 minutes. There are options as Stacy said to do it with a meal before, or there is also a 2 hr fasting. I have also heard of the jelly bean test too so it all depends.

My midwife gave me the orange drink for the glucose tolerance test. She said to drink it an hour before my next appointment. I asked her how much sugar is in it, she said 50 grams. It's supposed to be consumed in 5 minutes. I'm not going to do the test because I think it will make me very, very sick. I plan to ask her to monitor my Hemoglobin A1C levels instead.
