Low iron anyone??

I'm 27 weeks along and they checked my iron this week and it was low (33)---which is definitely pregnancy related since it was normal at my 1st ob apt and when my surgeon checked it at like 15 weeks.  So they told me to double my iron--I am already on 27mg of iron (and I faithfully take my vitamins)--so this will put me up to 54mg--does anyone know can I take all the iron at one time or do I need to space it out to absorb?  I know I can't take it with my calcium.

i had the same issue. i went to a birthing center, not a regular obgyn, so they wanted me to eat liver and organ meats or beets. lol. no thanks i'll just up my iron supplement. which i did. i was taking 60mgs and i was just fine. no worries. just take it in the evening when your body best absorbs the iron. and don't eat any dairy 2 hours before or after.

do you have an iron that you like? iron for me was the worst of all my pills bc it was chewable from BA. i could taste the iron. and when i tried to switch to capsules it was even worse bc i would burp up dirt tasting burps. yuck. on bariatricchoice.com  (i do all my vitamin shopping there) i found these BA iron chews in chocolate. not bad. but what i found that i really love is the iron chewables from Celebrate. Omg they're grape and i kid you not they taste like sweet tarts! for real. its amazing. i take 2 of those, even now (breastfeeding), and i always follow them with a couple of vitamin c gummies to help me absorb the iron.

I take the Bariatric advantage chewable iron-passion fruit flavored- which is purple and tastes ok to me, I take it at the same time as my sublingual B12 to help with the taste--and I realized this am when I got the bottle out I take 29 mg tabs not 27.

The chewable I really don't like the taste of is the calcium--I like the calcet and celebrates soft chews but they cost too much to take 3 a day of so I take the 1st 2 doses with my chewable multivits to kill the taste of them as well!

Anything you can do to mask the taste,I hear ya. For calcium I take citrical petites. They're calcium citrate unlike most store brands. But I only have to take 1 a day. It's a big bottle though. It's nice whenever you can get something from the drug store and not order it online.

I have have been anemic even prior to pregnancy.  I then started adding vit c to help with the absorption and even during pregnancy my iron cont' to climb.  Yes, you can take them at once if you don't get upset stomach from the iron.  I take 2 324mg ferrous gluconate with my prenatals and a 500mg vit c.  Hope you see an improvement.

Thanks my iron has vit c in it and all my levels have been good for the past 3 yrs so hopefully doubling my dose will be enough--I have been feeling tired the entire pregnancy and kept asking my ob during the 2nd trimester why I didn't get my energy back--I know you are tired 1st trimester but I have needed a daily nap the entire pregnancy!

I have the same issue too. I take one iron in the morning and one at night before I go to bed. You have to take it at least two hours before or two hours after you take your regular vitamins, especially calcium.  I take Ferrets Iron, IMO its the best one.
