IUI after WLS

Wow! I love this site! I wish I had heard about before now. I had WLS Dec of 2011 and I've lost 155 so far. I've only had one big issue since surgery (I got a kidney stone about 5 months after surgery. They said probably not related.) no issues since then with vomiting or nausea (unless I eat sugar)! I've been really lucky so far most of my vitamin levels are ok. But now me and my husband were having trouble conceiving, 3 yrs trying. He was a low sperm count and I was completely normal everything. Which was NOT the case pre-op. I was pre menopausal, my hormone levels were do out of wack. So my OB sent us to a fertility doc, who is wonderful by the way, and we decided to try IUI. We just did our first cycle last Sunday 1/27. And I feel so different but can't test yet. I know it's too early! I'm a little crampy, I've had diarrhea since Tuesday and nausea is crazy. most smells make me so nauseated. Almost puking. Anyone else have these symptoms so early? Or is it just wishful thinking?

Can't say. I don't know if anyone can. Sometimes it is wishful thinking, wanting something so badly that you start imaging symptoms. Before I got pregnant, I'd ask my hubby if he thought my breasts looked larger, smells made me nauseous and I'd hope against hope, and then I'd get my flow. Though the first time we did IUI, I did test early not from feeling symptoms but because of my impatience. :) I never expected to see PREGNANT in the window. I immediately did another test because i thought it was mistaken. A few days afterwards, at roughly the two week marker, that's when most of the symptoms started for me. Some women react to it sooner than others. I'm trying to remember when the smell of raw shrimp made me nauseous, I want to say it might have been before testing, but then again, dog food does that to me all the time even when not pregnant so that didn't phase me at all. I never had diarrhea. My symptoms were sore nipples, not crampy exactly, but the feeling that happens when the uterus starts to stretch some, just a dull ache, not the cramps associated with PMS or menses. I tested at a week and a half, roughly four or five days early.

Truly bare in mind that every woman is really different. I have to remind myself when I look at pictures of women who are 17 months with their beautiful baby bumps. I am 17 weeks, but I'm still wearing the same pants size I did when I got pregnant. I try not to get nervous because I haven't felt movement yet, but people tell me the same thing. Every woman is different. It's hard to hear that all the time. :)

DH and I conceived our 5 1/2 month old son on our first IUI cycle :) I used injectable medications along with the IUI. Did you take fertility meds at all? If you did, the medication can make you ovulate multiple eggs which gives you a higher progesterone level than usual, and progesterone can cause all of the pregnancy symptoms! I hope you get your BFP!

Liz,

I also had my first IUI done on the 25th!  DH has low count, and doctor isn't very hopeful this go round, but I am having some symptoms like sore breast and nose bleeds.  It's so hard not to get our hopes up.  Now, if Friday would just hurry up and get here so we can test!!

Hi a****hanks for your post I'll cross my fingers for you too! I am trying to wait until I miss my period . I've been through so many years without luck I CAN'T get too anxious. But I have hope and I guess that's what I'm holding onto. At least this time around I have a good support suay. Ten years ago when I started fertility testing my ex was so mean and not helpful and it is extremely difficult when you have to do it alone. Emotionally and all! I wish you the best and keep me posted!

(Oh and no I haven't been on and fertility meds. After my bypass my honors went back to normal so no extra help needed so far. But thanks for that info. I didn't know progesterone made you sick )

Any pointers on how to calm your nerves before your IUI? Mine is coming up 2/22/13 and I feel nervous and excited all at the same time. Cant seem to calm myself down.

Is it your first IUI? It was my first one two weeks ago and I'm still freaking out. Lol nah you'll be fine it's really not a big deal, actually sort of anti climatic. The hardest part was doing an at home collection for my husband and getting the timing right. We live quite a drive from our center and the sample is only good for do long so it was little more pressure than usual. Try to sleep as much as possible and read as much info as you can about the procedure. Sometimes it helps to breath or try to meditate. Also try to think positive happy thoughts. I know it's hard to 'keep it light' at a time like this but it's important tone stress free. Don't give your self added pressure about the procedure. My husband was great trying to keep me in a good mood. Remember that you'll be alright no matter if the test works or not. I'm rooting for you girl! Good luck and keep us updated!

Yes this is my first IUI. We are doing frozen sperm (same sex marriage) we are so excited and my wife has been great trying to keep me calm. Last month was suppose to be my first try was disappointed that I wasn't able to but I keep telling myself thay my time will come. I have made plans to keep myslef stress free but busy for the next couple of weeks as well as during the two week wait. I will be sure that I don't run myself too much and just make time to just relax and sleep. I am sure this weekend ill get some good sleep I have 24 inches of snow coming tomorrow in to Saturday

Wow that's a lot of snow! Lol. I'm sure you'll be fine and congrats to your wife too! Let it be exciting, I just try not to think of baby babes or decorating yet. One step at a time ya know? I wish you the best.!!!

I'm due to test this weekend so I should have an update. I'm feeling crampy as well as nauseous and (sorry) diarrhea. And my boobs are killing me! Lol I'm hopeful but I'm thinkin no luck this try. I think I'm excited to find out either way so I can move to the next step. The procedure is nothing compared to the dreadfully long 2 week wait! Ugh!

Stay strong!
