Almost 4 years post op and now I'm pregnant, BAM!!!
I still have morning sickness, (15 weeks tomorrow) and whenever something sounds good, I feel the need to eat it, even though I should know better by now! I have never gotten dumping syndrome no matter what I eat, even high fat, high sugars... Today though I decided that a choc. Eclair and a Carmel vanilla latte would be appropriate! Boy was I wrong! Normally I get sugar free syrup in my coffee so today, I sent my husband to the local (very small town) coffee shop.... I guess they don't know about sugar free syrup. So I got it bad! This is no joke!!! I am all huddled and rolled up on the couch rocking in fetal position, and I am here with all 3 kids alone. Pregnancy really does change your whole body around!
On a strange note not post related, I am still down 12 pounds since getting pregnant. I guess the drs are not upset or worried yet! So this ms is really doing its number still! I feel like the last pregnancy I had already gained 20lbs by now, I think I did like 2lbs a week!
My last post op pregnancy I was able to tolerate the sugars, this time seems like anything over 12 grams kills me! I am scarred to death of the glucose tolerance test that my doctor tried to insist that I am getting 2 this pregnancy! I told him that not even one is necessary since I am having such a hard time with the sugars!
My OB had a special glucose test drawn up for patients who had WLS. It was fast serum glucose, then high carb breakfast, then one hour serum glucose followed by another one hour glucose. I had to repeat it one additional time as that was routine for that particular form of testing. It worked and had no problems at all.
I just had my 4th kiddo and my OB INSISTED i do the glucose test. I called my surgeon and asked him about it and he said NO WAY! He told me that could send me into a shock which could hurt the baby! He was appalled that the OB even suggested it but that is really not their area so I get that they may not know that. I am a sleever. I went in and told my OB nope. She insisted and I again said nope. Obviously they cannot make you do anything you do not want to do so she just kept an eye on my levels. All was good :)
