First Reproductive Endocrinologist appointment
Hi, I am new to this board but have been around OH for a few years now. I am about 5 years post op RNY and have lost about 130 pounds. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 2 1/2 years with no luck. I have been on birth control pills since I was 15 and stopped taking them after RNY I was 27 and got an IUD. I had the IUD removed in 2010 so we could start trying to get pregnant. We have done hystogram, some hormone level testing, and semen analysis and everything looks fine so we are stumped and my GYN does not think there is anything else she can do for us so she has referred us on. I use the ovulation test strips and they turn positive every month, and we TRY to the point of exhaustion to make the most of every ovulation but we have had no luck.
I have a Son who is 15 I had him when I was 16 and still in high school (long story but, my high school sweetheart and I were in love and we were young and stupid so we did what young in love 16 year olds do and I ended up accidental pregnant)
My Husband does not have any biological children but we have been together since he was 21 and I was 19.
I can't help but think that all of those years of birth control pills did not cause me some harm I got pregnant so fast the first time it was unbelievable! I went from Virgin to expecting mother in about two months.
I know that was a long time ago and I am 31 now and things change.
How did your first appointment go with a fertility doctor?
Has anyone else been on birth control for years and feels like it has cause some kind of problem for you?
Thanks guys :)

I had that same feeling when I couldn't get pregnant. My first visit with the RE was AMAZING. They know SO MUCH MORE than regular OBGYNs, really, I am confident that you will leave the appointment with a "game plan." For me, just having a plan of action made things feel better.
Best of luck to you. I know it is REALLY hard to deal with infertility, but a RE is the right step to take.
(By the way, I now have 2 kids, and after my daughter was born I had no trouble getting pregnant again.)
I am so glad you posted this when you did. I am going to schedule an appointment with a RE. My husband and I have only been trying a few months but I am spotting for about three or four days before every period. My OBGYN has indicated that this can be an indicator that something is wrong. My husband and I are diligent- we BD every day for eight days during my fertile window. I haven't been on any birth control for over a year. My periods are always super regular but only recently have I started spotting for several days before the period. I have read that this can be due to progesterone levels or endometriosis among other things. I am hoping that my OBGYN will see me Monday as I started spotting again today (expecting AF tuesday/ wednesday) so we are right on schedule for the same issue again this month. It's SO scary- I literally just fell apart with tears to see it again this month. I don't want to keep trying in futility for 6 more months before seeing a specialist. My OBGYN is in a midwifery and has pretty holistic ideals. I am afraid he is going to want us to keep trying and not refer me to a RE. I am in my early 30's. I don't have any children yet- we wanted to wait until I was at a healthy weight, we had finished grad school, bought a house, etc. We have done all the steps and there is an empty nursery in my house that tears me apart. The thought of never having a family is completely overwhelming. Of course, people are always like "You have been married several years, now- when are you going to think about having kids??" It's not that easy for everyone! Lord knows, we are trying!
I love my RE (this is my 2nd RE and I loved my 1st also). I'm starting my first IVF cycle this week after doing 6 medicated cycles (3 with IUI/injectibles). If you have any questions please feel free to private message me. They will probably run a lot of tests if you have not had them done already (Semen analysis for hubby, bloodwork for both of you, day 3 bloodwork for you, HSG possibly, etc...). It's a lot to take in and I wish you the best of luck!
When you go in there to see you're RE make sure you have all of your questions ready to ask. I love my RE! I wasn't ovulating and had even taken Clomid. He knew how badly my husband and I were wanting a child so he ran a few test and put me on Femara (strongest dose right off the bat) and said if that didn't work that we would know that we needed to take the next step. January was my first cycle taking Femara, and Superbowl Sunday we got our very first positive pregnancy test!! :) RE's really know what they are talking about. I'll be praying that you get good results from your's as well. I know how hard it is to try for so long, we tried for 5 years and I'd lost 150 lbs through RNY. It's a heartbreaking thing to go through.
Congratulations! Yay! Yay!
Thank you for you kind words I really appreciate it. I seen the Doc Monday and we are going to start clomid this cycle. He thinks I have PCOS but we have not done an ultrasound as of yet to confirm it. I am so encouraged by your experience I hope this happens soon because I am afraid to let my self hope or even start to think about baby rooms, cribs, or any of it for fear of being disappointed. So I am trying to stay Objective and not let my emotions get too involved.
I am 31 if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?
Thanks again!
