Anyone on here have their RNY Open and then go on to have a vaginal birth. I dont think my ob realizes my surgery was not Lap and I am worried about not being able to do a vaginal birth bc of scar tissue. I know thats a main concern bc of c sections so i wonder if they will worry bc of the open procedure. my incision was about 12inches long from my RNY. I have tried researching and havent found much. A lot has said they end up in c sections. my next apt isnt until the 27th ugh

The scar concerns for c-sections are the scars on the uterus due to the stress put on them during contractions.  You should be fine, I can't see any reason why a vaginal birth would be an issue.  For what it is worth, I had a c-section with my first (pre wls) and then went on to have an easy and uneventful vaginal delivery for my second baby.

Good luck!

I had Open RNY, and like you had  large scar. I was able to give birth to my son vaginally, no issues at all. I plan to do the same with this baby. Scar tissues should not impact that. C section would be more of a risk but nonetheless reproductive system totally separate. My issue this time around is I had a tummy tuck so that is where my pain points are. LOL

Congratulations!!! I had open RNY in 2002 and gave (vaginal) birth to a heathy baby boy in 2006. I didn't have any complications. I must say that the entire time of my pregnancy it seemed that no one was concerned about my WLS history. That would frustrate me to no end because for some reason I thought I needed "special" assistance of some type. It took the entire 9 months for me to realize that everything would be just fine.

I see you have gotten several post, but wanted to let you know not only did I have open RNY I also had a tummy tuck which was an anchor cut.  I had my little girl 2 years ago vaginally and had no complications from the surgery scar, tissue, etc.  Only thing it's changed for me is that there wasn't alot of room for growing, so she was only 5lbs, but made delivery very easy.    Hope these answers help!  Stacey

I asked my surgeon about that because of stomach muscles. He said my gastric bypass was with my stomach and guts, he didn't touch my uterus. (Ok, that was a paraphrase but same idea.) So no worries. I went on to have a little boy vaginally in 2010. I almost had to have an emergency section but that had nothing to do with my WLS. Good luck with it.
