Breast feeding

GW 150 - met 12/11!!!
Pregnant w/ #1 due 4/9/13
I had cyst, so my baby never was able to latch on, so instead I pumped for the first 6 months. I had no problems keeping up with my food and calories, etc. When my lil girl drank my breast milk she never had issues with her stomach...when we switch to formula (I didn't feed her solids until a year) we had to switch several times in order to get her on something that she had regular BM. So long post short, I had no issues and was def better, this time I am hoping my baby can latch and I don't have the cyst issues, but even if that is a problem again I will pump as long as I can...planning on longer than 6 mnth....
Good luck! Stacey

RNY-10/27/04
I had sleeve not RNY, but either way, I had no problems nursing. I breast fed for 11 months (the first 4 were exclusive bfing). No problems with supply, just ran into problems with a baby who got distracted too easily and LOVED real food, lol. He gained weight just fine, I snapped back to my prepregnancy shape easily, and everyone was happy.
I exclusively breastfed my son for just over a year. I had RNY and was 5+ years post op. My son did not like formula of any kind or sort. He was on target for height and weight. I also got back to my pre pregnancy weight within 6 weeks of delivery and I think nursing helped. I had anemia issues so made sure to eat lots of protein and iron rich foods and kept up with my supplements too. My supply did go up and down but I used fenugreek to increase supply.
I am 3yrs post op and currently Bfing my 5mo old without difficulty. I nursed all three of my kiddos with the last being post op. I actually have had better production and my milk came in before leaving the hospital. Which is normal as the more babiesyou have the quicker and better production usually is. That being said WLS has not put a damper on my milk supply and baby is doing great. I do have my labs checked regularly because the bigger the baby gets the more nutrients they need and take form you. The baby will be fine it will be you who would be lacking, so you will need to cont' with your vits as if you were still preggers. The main thing they have found low on me is protein so had to bump that up. I am and have been anemic but with changes to my vitamin regimen it is improving. Hope that helps

I breast fed until Xavier was 7 1/2 months old. I never was exclusive since I didn't produce enough milk. Not having enough milk is not a WLS issue exclusively. My hair dresser didn't produce much and she is "normal" so it depends on you. Good luck with it.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.
