A Long Overdue Update
Hi Everyone,
Life has been busy these past couple of months. With Transplant Clinics, an Echo every week (now every two), and weekly Blood work,Christmas decorating (don't go there, I usually don't do it until the second week of Dec, but DH had it all going up Remembrance Day),the Christmas shopping (got a good head start) there never seems to be enough time to think or get things like updates done.
On the upside....Shaelyn is wonderful!!! Growing like crazy....she is finally up to 12 lbs (probably more like 13 lbs now, she gains about a pound every week and a half),and 58 cm long. I had a sad moment the other day when I had to clean her dresser and closet out of the 0-3 mth clothes, it has gone fast and with her being in Critical care and hospitalized for over 3 months I lost out on a lot of the newborn milestones. We had Shaelyn's extra thumb removed ( it hung from a vein just below her left thumb and was causing choking (thumb sucker) and would interfere later on with her writing or daily tasks) the whole procedure took 10 min start to finish and she just had a local freezing to do it. It is healing beautifully and the plastic surgeon done an awesome job, I doubt there will even be a noticeable scar. Her new heart is doing great too, we go to Transplant Clinic on the 10th and we see the dietician and we have been told that after that clinic Shaelyn will be starting solids. Yay, turkey for Christmas, can't wait to use the baby bullet. I believe she is going to be a good eater, hoping anyway, she sure likes her formula...LOL
Everything in her short almost 5 months has been extremely challenging, but in the end to be able to keep her alive and here with us, I wouldn't change anything. We owe the Toronto Sick Children's Hospital everything, and if we could do it we would, they saved our precious baby's life more than once. Her scars from her open heart surgeries is already fading and will continue to do so as she grows, she is HEALTHY, and quite the happy go lucky silly girl!!! She makes us smile everyday more than once. If you are stressed out with her because she is cranky, all she has to do is smile ear to ear at you and you melt and everything is forgotten and you scoop her up for hugs and kisses, for some reason we can't stay angry...LOL
Anyway on with the goods, and Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and we will update in the new year.
God Bless
