Blood sugar

My blood sugar has been so wonky since becoming pregnant. It will drop really low (30s-40s, lowest has been a 22) if I don't eat every 2-3 hours. So I try to eat a carb and protein every few hours to maintain my levels. I think I've been having reactive hypoglycemia too. If I eat something carby or with sugar in it with no protein my sugar shoots up and then drops really low within 45 minutes to an hour. Usually it will go up to like 180 or so and then drop to the 30s-40s unless I catch it quicker when it's like in the 50s-60s. Well today I had a pack of mini muffins that had 27 g sugar in them. No protein with it. I know I shouldn't do that and it's bad but I was craving those muffins so bad today lol. Well my sugar shot up to 280! Omg! It's never went up that high! About an hour later I was feeling the low sugar effects and it was at 58. Ugh. What is going on??? Anyone else experienced this? My dr just tells me to eat every few hours and eat a protein and carb together.

I had the same thing throughout my pregnancy. the best thing you can do is carry protein snacks with you. I would always keep a granola bar,  protein bar or a bag of nuts in my car and purse. Plus make sure you have a protein packed breakfast before you go for the sugar/carb cravings.

I have had that same problem ever since my 2 post op pregnancys.  Basically, as long as I ate a protein first--so I filled up 2/3 of way on that then ate carb I was fine.  I too had/have to eat every 2-3 hours.  Still do now, even after having babies.  If I eat carbs, esp simple carbs--sugars will go down to 30's.

I have been having issues since the pregnancy as well similar to what you describe.  But sometimes even if I eat a healthy protein/carb combo I can get symptomatic.  I just carry my glucometer, peanut m&m's for a drop and protein bars with me everywhere I go.
