37 weeks tomorrow! UPDATE!

I had a growth scan at 30 weeks and it was discovered then that my baby boy was breech. So at 34 weeks we had another u/s to check and see if he had flipped around and he hadn't yet. Last week I had my 36 week check up and by palpating my doctor said baby was still not in position, so we started discussing our options more in depth. One option being an attempt to turn the baby called ECV (or version for short), the other being a scheduled cesarean delivery. Either way, because I see a family practitioner for my OB care and he is not qualified to do either procedure on his own, I was referred to another OB.

Well, I had an appointment with the new OB this morning. Baby I's head is still up in my ribs, so we discussed version again and I'm still not liking the idea. We are going ahead and scheduling a c-section for the week after Thanksgiving. I will have a pre-op appointment and ultrasound at the "new" OB's office to confirm baby's position on the 26th. If he's flipped on his own by then, that's great! LOL But I have a gut feeling that he won't and I have a feeling there's a reason that he's not turning. In short, looks like we'll be meeting Izaak James in just over 2 weeks!!! :D I'm a little scared of the operation and recovery and especially concerned about infection prevention at the incision site, but I'm oh so excited to meet my son!

Very excited for you!!!! And the countdown begins!!! Go with your gut, don't get a version if you feel its "wrong". Enjoy these last few weeks, try to rest up and enjoy the last pregnancy moments. Its something I wished I did more with my son. Keep us updated and good luck!

He ALMOST was able to talk me into trying it. Told me I could have him stop whenever I wanted, etc...

But then he felt my belly to determine baby's position... and he said he tried pushing up on baby's bottom and it didn't move much. Didn't give me much hope that the version would work and it just doesn't make sense to go through all that pain/discomfort for it to not work.

Thanks! I will keep you all updated :) I wish I could rest up, but I have LOTS to do before then! Really need to get on my Christmas decorating now because Lord knows I'm not going to be up to doing it while I'm recovering from a csection and have a newborn on my hands.

good luck mama!! you're gonna be meeting your little boy so soon!! my gosh ahhhh!! so exciting!!! every week that passes i get more excited but also more nervous!! you shouldn't worry too much about the c-section. women get them all the time. and although its not ideal, in your case its the best way to go. good news is the birth won't be painful at all so you get to bypass all that stuff. you just have to deal with the recovery. but some ppl bounce back better than others. all in all it will all be ok. you'll do great. i'm soooooo excited for you! i can't wait to see pics of izaak!!!

i'm like you, trying to get my christmas decorations up before thanksgiving.i can't believe we're almost there!! ahhh!!

Hands down his SAFE arrival is the most important thing to me. I can't believe we're so close, either! It's crazy to think how soon we'll be holding our boys!

I do like the idea of getting to bypass the pain of labor and I love the idea of knowing exactly the day he'll be born. Those are the only two "perks" to having the csection. Well that and knowing it's safer for him to come that way than attempt to birth him vaginally bottom first.

I had a cesarean with my daughter 8 years ago and it really really wasn't as bad as everyone thinks. I was up and walking around within 24 hours. i really didn't have any pain thanks to the pain meds. The only thing that sucked a little was those damn staples, but some places don't even use staples anymore. I hope baby Izaak decides to flip for you, but good luck either way you will be fine =0)

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm not dreading the pain as much as I am fearing a possible infection. I know the pain will go away eventually and I'll be given pain meds to help keep me comfortable.

I had a c-section with Blake almost 2 years ago. They do a new thing now where they inject pain medication into your incision area. They were explaining it all to me as I was being wheeled into the OR, so I may have it all misinterpreted. I do know they put medication someone in my body to stop the pain at the sight as the surgery was progressing. It lasted for two days. So about the the time that my body would have naturally started to feel better it began to wear off. I was also given two different medications to handle the pain. They alternated them so that I was only mildly uncomfortable at times. I had been dreading the thought of another c-section because when I had my son 22 years ago it was a pretty bad experience..... I had a morphine pump that I could only press every ten minutes and it wore off at 2. I couldn't have oral pain meds until they took me off the morphine. Needless to say it was about 5 days before I was coherent. My next kiddo was a vbac. If you research doctors you will find that there are some in your area that will let you try for one. So all is not lost if you decide to have more children and want a vaginal delivery. My c-section with Blake was really pretty easy. Don't stress over it. Compared to what it was like years ago they have come a very long way. I had more pain with my gallbladder or appendectomy than having a c-section.

One handy thing I learned was to take a maxi-pad and place it over your incision after they take the dressing off. It will absorb the moisture and provide some cushion against things touching it like clothes, the baby, etc. If you get the thin kind that are wide, you can even double it over so it sits in the panni area where the incision is at. Having a Boppy was a godsend too. I wrapped it around my middle and placed the baby on it. Not having to hold my baby in the air while I was nursing or even bottle feeding took a lot of pressure off of the incision. I didn't have to use those muscles either.

Good luck! I hope he turns for you!! Either way, after he's in your arms safe and sound it won't matter how he got here....I promise!

I'm sure it'll be just like having a vaginal birth.. the pain and trauma of the whole labor and delivery part is merely a fleeting memory after baby is in your arms :) Thank you for sharing your experiences.

As for the medication they give that lasts two days? I think my surgeon did the same thing when I had my bypass. I wasn't in a whole lot of pain after that, so I'm hoping recovery from a csection will be fairly "easy" for me, too. I know they're very different surgeries, though.
