Is protein powder safe during pregnancy? My dr said I could supplement with boost or ensure on the days I don't get enough food in but those only have like 9g protein and like 40gcarbs! I have always used nectar protein powders. They have like 24g protein and 0 carbs when mixed w water (I mix the chocolate an strawberry w milk though). It is whey protein and sweetened w Splenda.

i don't see why protein shakes aren't good during pregnancy. but i wouldn't ONLY drink protein shakes. maybe 1 or 2 a day. but you do need carbs. you need to eat real food. but i don't see why you can't just continue using the one you use.

You did mention something key in your statement, especially if you are early on, it's hard sometimes just to eat anything....I still gag on chicken and eggs which are big items pre-preggo for me.   If shakes get you food in you, do it...I would try to continue testing other food and not make this your only meal if at all possible.  My dr tells me carbs/protein every meal...this can be fruit etc, not bad carbs, but important to balance as much as possible so that your sugars maintain.

Good luck!  Stacey

Thanks! Yeah I don't want the protein shakes to be my main source of nutrition. I had some low blood sugar episodes in the beginning so I try to balance a carb and protein together when I eat. It seems like here lately I tolerate carbs better and I'm having aversions to proteins like meats so I figured the shakes might help with that

I was having a hard time eating at first too morning sickness STINKS! . I did atkins protein shakes from walmart they have 1 grm of carbs 160 cal and I think 10 or 15 grams of protein and they are really good not thick like other protein shakes. I also Did power crunch protein bars from walmart 10 grams of carbs 13 grams of protein and they are really tasty .

Nectar also has a "naturals" line that is sweetened with stevia (the regular is splenda and acesulfame k) if you are worried about too much of one kind of sweetener over the other. It comes in Peach, Orange, and Fruit Punch (the fruit punch is VERY strong tasting I prefer the other two)

If the Nectar goes down and stays down and you and baby are healthy, i say stick with it.

Best of luck to you :)
