When were you cleared for pregnancy?

I am almost 11 months post op RNY. My surgeon likes his patients to wait 18 months for pregnancy. I met with my gyno yesterday for my annual and asked him when he thinks it would be ok to start trying. He said at 12 months he thinks it would be ok. I'm about 40lbs from my personal goal (surgeon doesn't set goals).

When were you cleared by your surgeon or gyno for pregnancy?

I would go by what the surgeon say and not the obgyn. Your surgeon is the one who specializes in surgeries not the other dr so his advice and recommendations are not as accurate

That's what I was thinking, too. I'm just so anxious!! Can't wait to start trying :-)

Every surgeon is different. Most recommend 12-18 mo. I myself was the cleared at 9mo to start trying. I had met my goal and my labs were good. I decided to go ahead and wait bc if anything God unwilling ever happened I would blame myself bc i didn't wait (NOT to say anything would happen to any baby conceived before 12mo) We officially started trying at 12 mo post op, and still are. Your soo close, wait out the month and have fun ttc, good luck!

That's a good idea. Thanks! My thoughts are that it probably won't happen right away but want to be prepared and ready for it when it does in case it doesn't take as long as I expect it to. How long have you been ttc?

We have been really trying the last 4 cycles, but we started back in June /July. And even then we stopped using BC last November and had been using NFP, which I was hoping wouldn't be successful LOL. I honestly didn't think it would take this long but even ppl with nothing wrong with them can take up to a year. I go next month for my prescription of clomid to start using in December. I wish I didn't need it. I have used opks in the past and never got a positive. I had Rny 6/2011 and have lost 145lbs. Good luck to you, hopefully it doesn't take long

Yay!! Yeah I am excited to start trying but I don't think Dr. Zare wants me to start trying yet. I see him next month for my 1 year appointment so I will ask him what he thinks then. Can't wait to see you and Maryn and her baby on Sunday!! :-)

My surgeon told me to wait 18 months, so that was our plan. Well, we had one night at 13 months post-op where we weren't careful (hey, it was Valentine's Day!) and now I'm less than 3 weeks away from my due date. I had still been steadily losing when I got pregnant and was only about 20 pounds from my goal. That was after losing over 230 pounds. I made sure to find an OB that had experience with post-GB patients, and honestly, this pregnancy has been awesome. I've been able to gain the weight I needed to gain--I think my appetite doubled or tripled once I got pregnant. Probably my body realizing it needed more nutrition. We've been keeping up on labs and did an extra US in the second trimester to make sure baby was still growing as it should (it was). It's just completely opposite from my first pregnancy, which was 5 years ago and when I was just under 400 pounds.

So, I guess technically I was never "cleared" for pregnancy, but it worked out for me! Good luck to you!
