Isabella is here! (LONG)
Wednesday, Oct 3, I went into L&D because my right side had become so swollen that the fluid was making it hard to breathe. I had gained over 50 lbs in water in the past 2 1/2 months but my blood pressure was doing well so my dr wasn't doing anything about it. I got there and they were going to put me into assessment at first. The nurse took one look at my side and told them to take me to L&D 1, I wasn't going ANYWHERE. At this point they took my BP and it was in the 130s/90s. This is high for someone who usually runs in the 110s/70s. My respirations were also 32 times a minute and labored. They immediately got a CT scan, NST and ruled out a pulmonary embolism and the baby was tolerating everything just fine. I had protein in my urine so they decided to move me to antepartum for a 24 hr urine collection. Before the 24 hrs was up, my BP was in the 180s/100s so the dr decided it was time to have the baby on Fri, Oct 5. She only decided to wait to give me time to get to 37 wks and bc I had passed my 24 hr urine collection, although they confirmed I had now developed pre-eclampsia. We were brought over to L&D at 6am, got prepped, into the OR, epidural placed (which was much less scary than I thought) and the c-section started at 8am. I have to say that was the worst part for me. First the nausea. Then the pressure. I had no idea you would technically feel everything, except pain, if that makes any sense. Then my husband decides he wants to stand up and watch the c section and they let him! I begged him the whole time to sit down so I didn't see anything in the reflection of his glasses. My anesthesiologist eventually told me to close my eyes and started to talk to me to keep me calm. At 0839, my little girl let out her first cries and they showed her to me over the curtain. She weighed 6 lbs 11 ozs, 19 1/2 inches long and mommy was in love from the moment they showed her to me. I looked over to my left and watched them with her which kept me calm the rest of the surgery. She is such a wonderful baby, and I can't say I have ever been happier. This was a difficult pregnancy but I have to say, it was all worth it in the end.
