 Hi everyone,
I was sleeved in Jaunary 2012 and have been in maintainance for two months now. I was cleared by my doctor to start trying to get pregnant and became so right away. I've been maintaining a weight of 134-136 for two months now on 1200 calories- give or take 100 on some days. I'm now 6 weeks pregnant and I'm wondering if I should up my calories at all? My diet is steady and healthy. I don't feel too hungry and I eat what my body feels it needs. I'm just curious about others calories. Should I up them? Stay at 1200 until my second trimester? I'm seeing my doctor on 9/17 and I will be asking him, but I often feel like we know our own bodies better than most doctors :) From all I have read, calories don't need to be increased until the second trimester.

I got pregnant 6 months out from my sleeve surgery, and weighed the same as you.  I was probably eating about that many calories for at least the first half of my pregnancy.  Gave into more cravings by the end of pregnancy, so I was probably eating more at that point.  I gained 18 lbs during the course of my pregnancy.  So, from my experience it is probably fine, but I'm not a doctor :)

Thanks so much! I'm glad to hear you stuck to the plan as much as possible and didn't gain too much. I'm planning to do the same :)

I am 19 weeks pregnant with twins, I had my VSG in July of 2012, I had been in maintenance for about 4 months when I got pregnant.  I was eating anywhere from 1300-1500 calories to maintain my weight.  Now that I am having twins they want me at this crazy number of calories.  However, my OB is realistic that my calorie consumption is going to be hard to increase due to the itty bitty tummy I have.  We agree that I would try to eat an extra 600 calories if I could(this is typical for twins), but if I couldn't since I eat pretty "clean" she knew I was getting good calories for the baby.  They are a little worried the further I get into the pregnancy because this little peanuts take everything out of me and they want to make sure that I am healthy.  The babies are growing just fine with no problems, if they keep growing like they are now they will be 5-7 pounds each if I go full term.  With my first pregnancy I gained 60 pounds, so of course I was nervous this time around.  So far at 19 weeks I have gained 10 and honestly I do not stress about it as much as I thought I would, I realize that this is part of pregnancy and I'll get the weight off again.  Ok so now I'm on a whole different tangent, LOL!  My OB also told me that I didn't need to increase my calories until second trimester, but that I should maybe start from the time we found out we were pregnant because it was going to be a huge change for me, which it has been, but thats ok.  I eat about 1800-2000 now on a good day, so its really all about what you and your OB think is best for you.
