Just Curious

I am due to have gastric bypass surgery in a few months but I am wondering what happens if I get pregnant after the surgery? Do I change my diet? And how hard is it to lose the weight after the pregnancy. Also will my baby be safe?

It is recommended that you wait 12-18 months or until you are done losing weight before you become pregnant. Your pregnancy diet will be very different than your RNY diet. You'll have to add carbs and healthy fats while you're pregnant and breast feeding that you'll avoid after surgery. I do not have experience with losing the baby weight yet, but have networked with many women who have lost theirs with no problems at all.

As for your baby being safe, yes, many MANY women have healthy pregnancies/babies after WLS. In fact, it is better for you, healthwise, to be pregnant after WLS and losing weight than it would be before losing weight.

Best of luck to you with your surgery and beyond! :)
