New here! Have questions
Hello all! I had RNY in Jan 2011, and have been given the clear that it is safe to get pregnant as far as the surgery goes. Now, I have a blood disorder similar to hemophelia that causes me to have to go on Prednisone and was a contributiting factor to me gaining so much weight. My husband and I were so sure we were done at two beautiful kids, but now we are thinking we want a third. A few questions:
1. How hard was it to be pregnant after surgery?
2. Did you gain a lot of weight with the pregnancy?
3. Were you able to get back down to your prepregnancy weight pretty quickly?
Any other info you think I should know would be great!

Hi~
Do not worry about weight gain if you are blessed with the gift of a pregnancy.
Take your vitamins, vitamins, vitamins.
Do you need to give blood for your blood disorder?
Do you need to take blood thinners to keep a pregnancy?
How are your plattlettes?
Let your doctor know you are considering it and have them assist you during the process.
Weight loss can be achieved post pregnancy...many here have done it.
I wish you luckCheri

My disorder is called ITP (long Greek words...), basically it is like hemophelia but it isn't constant...it comes and goes. With our son (1st pregnancy) is when it started, didn't have any problems or showed signs/symptoms before I was 27 weeks pregnant. (There is a pregnancy enduced form, so that is what they thought I had until they dropped two years later and I was in the ICU being pumped full of, literally, over 60,000 peoples blood parts for two weeks) Thankfully I responded to the steroids, but he ended up with two brain bleeds. He is perfect now, but had to have countless procedures and spent months in the NICU/PICU. Our daughter (2nd pregnancy) my platelets dropped around 12 weeks (so much earlier than with our son) and we freaked thinking her pregnancy would be horrible. They came back up on their own (they had never done that before, that we know of...have always needed medical intervention), and they didn't drop with her pregnancy again. She was a csection because of what happened with our son, and everything was fine.
I went and had a consult with the high risk OBGYN in May (husband was deployed and we have moved since our daughter's birth so we wanted to see if it would be safe), and they took both mine and my husband's blood last week and shipped it off to Michigan to look for genetic issues. We should get the results sometime next week to see if we are carries of two rare genetic disorders. Basically my doc is saying it is SO RARE for both of mom's and babies platelets to drop...it is normally one or the other, and with both pregnancies it has been both me and the baby. Even though nothing was wrong with Haylee, her platelets were still under 100,000 and Nathan's were 75,000 at birth...way too low. So, the doc is curious and thinks that there is more going on.

Hi there! I am also an RNYer. I had surgery 10/18/11 and found myself pregnant at 5.5 months post op at a pre-pregnancy weight of 265.
1. I'm currently almost 26 weeks pregnant and so far this pregnancy has been easier in some regards and harder in others. Easier physically - I've had more energy and don't feel quite so run down all the time. My body doesn't hurt as much as it did with my first pregnancy, etc. It's also been easier for my doctor to care for me as he can feel my uterus from the outside this time whereas he couldn't last time so he can measure my fundal height and all that. It's been harder to get proper nutrition in because of the limited pouch space, but the hormones do relax your stomach (and pouch) muscles a little so you are (at least I am) able to eat a little more than normal. I also have to make sure I'm eatin every couple of hours and having to ignore some "rules" such as not drinking while eating in order to get everything that I need in. I've also pretty much stopped exercising altogether. Doesn't make sense to burn off the precious calories I'm working so hard to get in. Things like that will be different for you because you are further out.
2. So far I have a net gain of -29 pounds. I got down to 230 by the time I was 21 weeks pregnant and have just started gaining some of that back in the last 4 weeks. Currently I'm at 237.
3. I have no answer for this, but I network with many women who lost their baby weight and some who even got below pre pregnancy weight with ease! Some have had to work a little, but the ones I've had contact with who had the really difficult time losing the weight were banders. A vast majority of the RNYers seemed to shed their baby weight like it was nothing.
Best of luck to you no matter the route you decide upon. :)
