New to here..
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum have just been reading some posts and just want to say Congrats to those that are preganant or new moms that's awesome and best of luck to those trying to get pregnant.
I had my RNY July 2011 and have lost 130lbs to date. I would like to lose another 20lbs to reach my goal weight. I am currently 28 yrs old and wanting to have my first child before I am 30 and am hoping to start trying in the new year to become pregnant.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice regarding the whole process? I had my 1 yr follow up yesterday with my dietician aand explained I would like to start trying in the new year and she told me to start taking a prenatal vitamin and folic acid now to get my body adapted and then once I become successful to get my doc to prescribe Preg Vit witch is a prenatal vitamin but seperates into two doses for better absorption??? Anyone heard of this?
Thnanks in advance for any advce it's appreciate!

Hi and welcome :0 ) Congrats on your surgery and your weight loss, that is awesome!! I have never heard of that kind of pre-natal vitamin but that is good to know that there is one like that out there.
I take just one pre-natal a day and I take an extra folic acid 3x a day. . along with an iron in the moring. And in the afternoon I take a calcium a b12 and a D3. . .which was my normal routine being a post op. I hate taking vitamins but it is worth it. Good luck to you and keep us posted

Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it. Ya my dietician said not alot of doctors are aware of the Preg Vit but it is something that has to be prescribed by them.
I started taking a pre-natal, folic acid, and iron as it came back low in addition to the other stuff I have been taking which is calcium, vit d, b12, c and biotin.
I hear ya I am soooo not a pill person so it's has taken alot to get used to but yes you're right it is worth it :)

I'm 2 years out now, but I take one prescription pre-nat. vitamin and an extra prescription folic acid tablet and my labs have been coming out fairly nicely. The only two levels they are watching, but aren't too bad are iron (I've always run anemic), and potassium. The potassium is mild enough to control through diet, even with the nutrient malabsorption. Biggest word of advice, get used to drinking LOTS of water. My OB wants me to drink close to a gallon a day. It does help keep cramping down. Good luck.
