Hello everyone. I am almost a year out of surgery and 100 pounds down. Not now but next year my husband and I would like to start having kids. Anyone who has had duodenal switch wls? Just want to know what to expect. Thanks in advance. And as a side note I haven't been on this site for over a year because the last time I did all people did was be rude to me and then yell at each other. I really need the advice not the drama. Thanks in advance.

Hi! No drama (normally) here.
Take you vitamins, get your levels checked...
Little protein packed snacks, plenty of res****er & exercise...
Hope a DS chimes in to help...
Happy journey to you!

I am almost 34 weeks pregnant right now. My bc failed at 9 months post-op. I have been fortunate that through most of my pregnancy everything has been normal. But I got too comfortable in the idea that everything was okay. Into the third trimester when a lot of normal pregnant women start to have issues like anemia and such I also started having issues. I have become anemic. It can be hard to get enough protein in because you do need to increase your carbs while pregnant. To keep adequately hydrated and nourished I feel like I am stuffed all of the time. Definitely take your vitamins all of the time. Monitor your labs because it doesn't take long for stuff to become low. My ferritin at one point went from 68 to 18 in a matter of just a couple of weeks. I don't know about other women but from the ones I've spoken to most don't gain much if any weight. I'm still 3 lbs below pre-pregnancy weight and it's taken me eating constantly and keeping my activity level pretty low. In the beginning when I tried staying active I stayed around -15 to -20 lbs below pre-pregnancy weight.

Good luck :)

Thank you to both of you for your advice. It is reassuring to know normal pregnancies can happen.

I had my DS in Feb 2007 and had my daughter January 2010. I am now 9 weeks along in my second pregnancy! I'm so excited that we were able to conceive, since I'm 42 years old :0)

I had a tricky pregnancy, not so much to do with my DS, but because I had an "incompetent cervix" (I hate that term!), needed a cerclage, and developed a kidney infection at 5 months.

I really let go of any worries about my weight -- began at 155 and weighed about 180 when I was due at term (I was induced at 38 weeks).... I'm 5' 6"  I was able to fit in my size 8 jeans literally 2 days after giving birth :0) I focused on 1. My vitamins, dictated by my labs, 2. eating as much protein as I could (I ate lots of chicken and beef burritos, minus the tortilla). oh, and eggs with cheese... Lots of eggs!

I notice that a lot of people worry about gaining too little or too much weight,  and I also worried that the baby would be compromised because of my malabsorption but she is healthy and normal, thank goodness! I also worried about breast feeding, and that was not a problem either... I breastfed my daughter until she was 15 months old.

Let me know if you have any questions, I would love to help out a fellow mom :)
