C Section Date Scheduled! Excited and TERRIFIED

Yesterday we got the phone call that my dr had scheduled my c section for October 15th @ noon. I am so excited to have her birthday and hope she holds out til then. Then I go to bed last night and all the thoughts start running through my head. Don't get me wrong. I've had 3 surgeries in the past 3 yrs, 2 last yr alone! I know I can handle the post op thing. I've just never been awake for surgery, as I will for this c section. Thoughts started like, what if the spinal block doesn't take and I end up having to be put to sleep? I want to see my little girl when she comes out! What if it stops working in the middle of surgery and I feel something?!? Do any of you moms that have had a c section have any advise or encouragement? Don't get me wrong, I SOOO can't wait to meet her. I'm just terrified about her getting here now.

Congrats Brandi!
I can't think of anyone that wouldn't be at least a little bit scared of having a c-section! It is major surgery! I just had one 8 days ago, totally unexpectedly. I didn't have too much time to worry about it as it was an emergency and I was more worried about my baby. He was totally healthy, but his cord was being compressed during my contractions and we had to stop and deliver him via c-section.

I had an epidural in already that the dr. used during the surgery instead of a spinal. They put more drugs in the epidural to make it stronger. I was also worried that I would feel pain! The Dr. assured me I wouldn't feel pain and that no one does, and no one feels it in the middle of surgery. Sure enough I didn't! Its weird because you can feel sensation, like the knife being dragged across, and the baby being pulled out, and the stiching at the end, but you don't feel pain. I can't really describe it! I had a bit of pain during the stitching part because things were starting to wear off a bit but nothing worth dialing up the meds for. They pinch your belly really hard with a tool like a pair of pliars before they make the first cut to make sure you are numb. The doctors and anesthiologists are experts and do hundreds of c-sections per year. It is amazing to be able to be awake for the birth!
Why are you doing a scheduled c-section? I am wanting at least one more child and am already conflicted about whether or not I want to do a planned c-section or try for a vbac.

Good luck to you! :) Its the best surgery in the world to have to go through because you get a baby out of the ordeal ;)

That's reassuring to read. I've always feared anesthesia and today when my dr's nurse called to talk to me about my pre op appt, I asked if it would be a spinal or epidural. She said usually epidural but the anesthesia dept would speak to me when I went in for my pre op appt at the hospital. The only reason I'm having to do a scheduled c section is because in 2009 I had to have an emergency c section with my twins due to placental abruption at 28 weeks. They both passed within a month.  I was told that with it being an emergency and the fact that they were so early, my dr couldn't be sure of the location of my scar on my uterus. She said this put me at high risk for uterine rupture. I really wanted a vaginal birth but with a history of the c section, my ruptured ectopic last yr and then my RNY last yr as well, I'd rather be safe than sorry. As you said, the prize at the end is that we get to have the baby :)

Yaaay Congrats, that is so exiting!!! I had a c-section with my daughter 8 years ago and all I can say is thank God I did. I didn't feel any pain at all. . .I don't even remember having the tugging and pulling sensation that they say you feel when they take the baby out. After the surgery I was in bed most of the time and the nurses brought Gabby right to me. The only time I really got up was to move from the bed to the chair when i started breast feeding. The ONLY ONLY time that I felt a little bit of pain was when I had to poop. . lol. yes poop. I went to the bathroom and I kind of had to push the poop a little and it did hurt . ..lol. It wasn't like excrutiating just a litte painful but that was it. Now I know that I have to have a c-section with the twins and I am so happy for that too. . .I never wanted to have a natural birth and push anything out of my. . .you know what. . ... and to imagine to have to push out two!!.. lol.
You will be fine, they do c-sections hundreds of times a day every single day, everything will be fine, don't worry. Plus they will be giving you pain medication afterwards so that will help if you have any pain. Good luck, keep us posted and don't forget to post baby pics

I had a C-section with my princess. I  had to be put to sleep due to the fact they couldn't get the space to get my spinal in. I work in L&D where they do lots of c-sections and all of our c-sections unless stat stat or they allready had an epidural and labor failed get a spinal. I've been told a spinal numbs you more than the epi does. So you migh want to look into that when you talk to anistisa. Even though I had to be asleep and didnt get to see her until she was stable with her glucose I am just happy shes healthy and happy and wouldn't trade it for the world. At the end of the day rather your awake or asleep you will get to see your baby and there health and yours is all that matters in the end.
