How long after stopping depo to get a period, get pregnant
Hello,
My name is Christine and I am 8 months out from RNY. I am not actively trying to get pregnant yet as I am not to goal and not cleared by my surgeon yet.
I was on Depo Provera for the first 6 months post op and discontinued it. My last shot was 5 months ago, so two months off of the shot. How long did it take you to get a period again and how long to get pregnant. The reason I stopped the shot was because I had heard it can take a very long time for some to get their period back and get pregnant. For now we are just using condoms for contraceptive.

I am no help on answering your questions because Depo did weird things to me and didn't take away my periods at all. I've read many places, though that it can take more than a year to get your period back after stopping Depo.
But welcome to the board and good luck when you do get the green light to start trying :)

Yeah, that is why I stopped it now. I would rather stop it now and just use condoms until I am cleared for pregnancy. I am 29 years old, no kids yet. Actually one of the main reasons for my surgery (besides diabetes) was infertility.
I lurk the pregnancy forum a lot gathering information for when I do get pregnant. I sure hope it doesn't take too long after I reach goal! Thanks for welcoming me! :-)

I have not been on the Depo in a year and I still haven't had a period (we thought I had one in Nov but unsure now) but also I haven't had surgery yet so I am assuming it is because of my weight but I can say I have a friend who is probably no more than 20 lbs over weight and she did not have a period for 3 years after discontinuing the depo provera shot. Not sure if this information helps but I thought I would try. A nurse (who was always small from what I saw) told me she actually got pregnant while on the Depo so I am guessing it just depends on the person.
