Shaelyn Aug 14th Update
Hi,
I know it has been a few days since my last update, so here is the latest on Sweet Baby Shaelyn. Shaelyn has had a few rough days. Friday she had her ventilator removed and when we saw her Saturday morning she was receiving oxygen through nasal prongs, by noon she was on c-pap and by the evening she had to be re-intubated back on the ventilator. Her breathing was way too fast causing her heart to work way too hard, which is not good for her heart condition. Shaelyn was also heavily sedated and muscle relaxed (and still is) so that the ventilator would do the work for her breathing. Today she had the balloon procedure to dilate one of the arteries in her heart to help give better blood and oxygen flow to her lungs and body. It took about 2 hrs for the procedure and she had a really rough go. We almost lost our sweet baby as they started bringing her back to her room, they quickly took her back in and got her stabilized and she pulled through. A REALLY close call. I tell you she is one heck of a fighter and has got some great spirit in her. Right now she is stabilized and still sedated and muscle relaxed. Hoping they can start lifting the sedation tomorrow and we can get back on the road to a somewhat normal routine until a heart comes available. We are also praying there are no more real bumps in the road. This is one heck of an emotional and scary roller coaster and we pray that we can get off of this ride soon and have a health baby and get to come home. We are hanging in though, it is extremely tough, but we are managing to hang in.
We are praying hard and we know you all are too and thank you for doing so. Please keep us in your prayers and thoughts and mostly keep rooting for Shaelyn.
My work is awesome. I took the year mat leave as it is when I was laid off at the end of June, yes was planning to return in Sept anyway, now things have changed and I won't be returning until Shaelyn has her new heart and we are released from here. My job will be waiting for me when I get back and Shaelyn will still be able to go with me, the transplant team says that with her new heart and once we leave here she is to be treated like any other baby, NO putting us in a protective BUBBLE ...
