For those with a 'surprise' pregnancy
My body hates hormonal birth control! The pill made me psycho (and it's out now, anyway b/c of malabsorption), the patch made me nauseous 24/7, the shot gave me 3 week long periods and I wasn't willing to try any other hormonal form beyond those. I had gotten fitted for a diaphragm, but that soon didn't fit due to the rapid weight loss. If you're already at goal, though, that may be a possiblity for you. Condoms have never worked for us - DH ends up losing his "mojo" and they always fall off. Doesn't matter how thin the condom is, even.
DH and I were using the withdraw method along with family planning to try and avoid pregnancy, but neither of those methods are close to perfect. The computer program I was using to track my cycles told me I would be ovulating earlier than what I did and then we had an oops moment mid-month. I didn't bother trying to get Plan B because I thought I had already ovulated. So there ya go...
There is a non-hormonal IUD called Paraguard. I'm way paranoid about IUD's, so it's not an option I would choose, but it could be an option for you. Other than that, a diaphragm, sponge, condoms, and spermicide, are all that's out there that are hormone-free.
Best of luck to you!
