For those with a 'surprise' pregnancy

May I ask what form of birth control you were using??

I have been taken off of hormonal birth control and we are just using condoms but I'm so super nervous about getting pregnant it's sort of taking the fun out of things.

We eventually want kiddos just not right now.

Thanks for sharing!

I wiould suggest something like the Nuvaring or another type of device for birth control if you want to avoid getting pregnant for now. I was on the Nuvaring and I did not have any pregnancy accidents :)

Nuva ring is hormonal so it's out as well :(

Sorry to hear that. No ideas beyond that. You may want to consult with an OB.

Yeah, it's kind of crummy! IUD is out too, so it's sponge or condoms for now. Blerg!

I could probably just be over reacting but seeing all the "surprise" pregnancy stories makes me curious.

My body hates hormonal birth control! The pill made me psycho (and it's out now, anyway b/c of malabsorption), the patch made me nauseous 24/7, the shot gave me 3 week long periods and I wasn't willing to try any other hormonal form beyond those. I had gotten fitted for a diaphragm, but that soon didn't fit due to the rapid weight loss. If you're already at goal, though, that may be a possiblity for you. Condoms have never worked for us - DH ends up losing his "mojo" and they always fall off. Doesn't matter how thin the condom is, even.

DH and I were using the withdraw method along with family planning to try and avoid pregnancy, but neither of those methods are close to perfect. The computer program I was using to track my cycles told me I would be ovulating earlier than what I did and then we had an oops moment mid-month. I didn't bother trying to get Plan B because I thought I had already ovulated. So there ya go...

There is a non-hormonal IUD called Paraguard. I'm way paranoid about IUD's, so it's not an option I would choose, but it could be an option for you. Other than that, a diaphragm, sponge, condoms, and spermicide, are all that's out there that are hormone-free.

Best of luck to you!

 Thanks! I hear ya!

We want to start trying in about a year so the IUD (besides freaking me out) is out too...

I have many of the same issues as you!

I've just downloaded an app on my phone as well. More likely than not I'm just freaking myself out! :)

We've used NFP (natural family planning) our entire 13 year marriage with zero issues.  It's as effective as the pill without the side effects.  Good luck.

This pregnancy is a result of a failed condom.

I refuse hormonal bc, and was just 2 weeks away from my IUD (Paragard non-hormonal) appt when I popped pregnant with Ashton.
