2 1/2 Months Postop and Pregnant with TWINS

I found out that I am about 6 weeks pregnant, with twins when I was seen in the ER yesterday for dehydration and chronic vomiting/nausea.

Well, thats a surprise, as I am only 2 1/2 Months post op! Of course this was not planned, but I am terrified in the back of my mind....I can barely eat or drink now, and am feeling low about trying to get enough nutrients in for 2 babies...

Anyone else had a baby or babies before the 12 month mark?
What should I expect?

This is shocking- as I am an RN and of course always dreamed of having a midwife and home birth. Now I am considered high-risk, so none will take me.

Any suggestions from expierence?? HELP

It's definitely more challenging, but lots of women (myself included) have found themselves pregnant before they were a year out.

I was 5.5 months post op when I found out I was pregnant. You're going to have to make sure to be on top of  your vitamins every day, try as much as possible to get in all your water, and you're going to feel like you're eating ALL DAY LONG! LOL Keep your protein up and add carbs. Those babies need them! Good news is, again, that you're not alone and many women have had healthy pregnancies and babies after WLS - even so soon post op.

Good luck and best wishes for a happy, healthy 9 months!

I got pregnant 3 1/2 months out from surgery. I admit it was very hard my first trimester. I couldn't eat hardly at all. On top of still learning what I could eat post op, my body was adjusting to the pregnancy hormones. I admit it has slowed my weight loss (I am 9 months out and have lost 100 lbs) but my baby is growing well, I am finally feeling better and I know that I will be able to work harder after she is born. Make sure you stay on top of your vitamins, no matter how nauseated they make you. I drank a lot of Powerade Zero (hint: try to stay hydrated the best you can!) and ate a lot more often. I eat more carbs now than I should but my OB is on top of me to get them in. Take it easy and I hope all goes well with you and the little ones.

Thank you all for your feedback.

I am barely eating anything because I am sick ALL the time! I eat a small bite of food here and there throughout the day and carry around water with 1/3 juice. The surgeon said I need a high risk OB which dissapoints me, as I always have seen midwives for gynecological things and love the attention and care.

What tests and how often did you girls recieve a sonogram?
What does a high risk OB do, that a midwife can not monitor!?
Did you girls have to go to a nutritionist/dietician?
What was your diet like in the first trimester. I am pretrified of anything happening just because my lack of eating.

Right now I take chewable vitamins(gummy) prenatal vitamins and they are fine on my tummy.
Bu****er makes me oh so sick and anything I smell food-wise.

Ive lost 60 pounds so far, but had 60 pound to loose- Did you girls loose weight while you were pregnant? Was it frowned upon?

I had my first sonogram at 7 wks to check viability, then 2 weeks later to check that there was a heartbeat. I then had the NT scan at 12 weeks and my anatomy scan at 18 weeks. My AFP test came back with high risk for spina bifida but my anatomy scan showed everything normal so they suspect I might have a problem with my placenta. Now I have to get ultrasounds every 4 wks with a high risk dr, on top of regular OB visits. I will start my glucose tolerance testing with a glucometer at home on my next visit (next week) since I had RNY. At that time I start appts every 2 wks and she wants to do a NST at every visit. Weekly visits start at 36 wks until around 39 wks when we will do my c-section. I have to do a c-section bc I twins prematurely in 09 with an emergency c section (they both later passed away) ... my OB says there is a higher risk of uterine rupture. Not my ideal birth experience but it's all for the baby.

I never saw a nutrionist/dietician

My first trimester diet consisted of whatever I could keep down. I was so sick, I didn't stick to any certain diet, just whatever stayed down. LOTS of Powerade Zero to stay hydrated and of course my vitamins.

I have lost 30 lbs so far during pregnancy and only gained back one of that. My dr doesn't seem concerned at all. She just tells me that now is not the time to be dieting, just eat healthy.

I hope your experience with prenatal care is better than mine but I just wanted to give you an idea of how my care has gone so far.

Check you gummy vites. JUst make sure they contain iron.  It is real important.  Most gummies don't have it (Ones that I have seen so far anyhoo).  I take "Prenatal 19 chewables", an Rx vite my dr perscribed.  So far so good, but I am 4 years post op and have been psycho about my vites all this time.  You'll do fine...Alot of folks have been in the same boat  :)

PS ~ I dreamed of homebirthing too, but after my 6 D and C's for cancer, and  being 37 it was strongly not reccomended for me as well.  Bummer.

Hang in there and stay hydrated!

Start: 487 lbs (8/07) Lost 81 lbs pre op on South Beach. 406 lbs at surgery (6/08). 179 post op, by 2011. I  lost 308 lbs. Gained 98 while pregnant (2012-13) lost all but 25. My goal is to be 179 again!

Well they changed those gummy vitamins of course!
I am so angry!

I went to see my bariatric surgeon today and he never had a patient who got preganant early. He immediately tried to book me for an endoscopy to dilate my pouch as much as he can so I can eat. I explained thats not the issue, the issue is nausea and vomiting which I think is related to morning sickness.

He then called my high risk ob who had JUST tole me that morning, to stay hydrated as she isnt worried about the food that much, since many people in thier first trimester dont eat alot!
Then after he called her, she calls me saying she thinks I should go with the endo in case i have an ulcer or bleeding or stricture.

They do not understand! I dont have the same signs/symptoms as when I had a stricture. I am able to eat when I am not nauseous. I think this is morning sickness. So she put me on pepcid, zofran and another vitamin. Should I feel bad for declining this endoscopy, even though they claim it is safe for the babies? What are you girls suggestions??
