Why is it not a good idea to not do the glucola test?
Personally, it's such a quick ***** I can't say it hurts. I also rotate which finger I use so none of them get sensitive. My ring fingers seem to be the least sensitive so I poke those more than the other fingers. My index finger is by far the most sensitive. I also squeeze the end of my finger until it turns bright red and then poke it. I'm not sure why, but it's how I do it.
I don't get a lot of arguments from either of my obs which is nice, but it's a military hospital. They know I'll file a complaint pretty fast if they are ugly or unreasonable. I'm a bit high-maintenance.

my OB will probably argue, why take 2 weeks of testing 4 times a day over drinking some liquid and waiting an hour. i know he's gonna say that. and yeah if you put it like that it does sound silly. but that one hour test will turn into the 3 hour test. i'd rather just be at home. sounds like a pain in the ass but more pleasant.
If you have issues *****ing your finger - you can use your arm, your stomach, or your thigh. I did that when I had Gestational Diabetes pre WLS and was pregnant. I would stick the upper part of my arm and it didn't hurt at all and gave me enough blood to register on the strips. I had a huge problem sticking my fingers and the arm worked well. Just a hint for anyone having trouble with the finger sticks - arm much more comfy.
