TTC after lap band

I haven't been on this board in FOREVER! But I am just over two years post-op from my lap band and DH and I are starting to plan our family.

Thing is, I have been kinda stuck at this same weight for about the last year.  And now that we just "pulled the goalie" as the hubby likes to say, I'm wishing I had been more focused on my weight loss for the last several months! I am about 188-190 and for my height I should be btwn 130-140.  Honestly, I'd be thrilled at 150!!  But I feel like I've lost my "mojo" or whatever!

I know I need to get back to basics to I can get as healthy as possible before we concieve . . . any encouragement or help would be very welcome!  I've been working out very regualrly (usually at the gym 4-6 days a week!) but the food part is the hard part.  I have decent restriction but I think I've probably picked up some bad habits that kinda let me "eat around" the band.  I need to refocus . . .

And if anyone on here has gone or is going through pregnancy after the band (seems like all the posts are RNY etc) I'd love to hear about it!!   Did you have to empty your band in order eat enough for pregnancy? My hubby is very concerned about that and is going to want me to empty it . . . but I'm really worried that is going to be a slippery slope!

Thanks in advance for your wise words! :)

There are a few band babies around! No, you don't HAVE to get unfilled. Just pay attention to your body and do what feels right. Some people get a little taken out, especially during the first trimester, but it varies. If you have a lot of nausea, be sure to get some zofran as it is preferable that we not vomit at all. With my first band baby I had a tiny unfill during the morning sickness phase, and then had it put back when the morning sickness cleared up. This time around I had already had to have a small unfill before I got pregnant, so I haven't tinkered with it at all and I haven't had any trouble. Yes, you will probably gain some weight, but likely less than you would if you had no band. With my first I gained around 23 lbs and went home from the hospital 4 lbs over my baseline and that was gone in a few days. I seem to be on track to do about the same this time around. Don't let someone MAKE you empty the band if it isn't necessary!

Banded 03/22/06  276/261/184 (highest/surgery/lowest)

Sleeved 07/11/2013  228/165 (surgery/current) (111lbs lost)

 Hi Dev,
Thanks for the reply!  It definitely helps me feel better to know that I may not have to get unfilled. I tend to get a little tight right before my period so I can imagine that I may get a little tight at some point because of all the hormones.  23lbs is great!!
My hubby is just concerned so I'm just trying to get anectodal evidence that a complete unfill isn't necessary. I think it will help him to relax if he knows plenty of people have had healthy pregnancies after the band without getting unfilled. :)
I appreciate the input! :)

Hi!
I have had two band babies my first one I was unfilled due to complications I had before I got pregnant and gained 50lbs. I got my band fixed and lost all except 10lbs before I got knocked up again (just 5 months later!). I m 32 weeks and have gained 28lbs so I am way less than last time. I have kept my 4cc's in and feel good, but I have heard horror stories about after labor some women get super tight due to the stress on your body. I plan to keep my fill as long as I responsibly feel it is okay.
But I would suggest getting back to basics and start off the pregnancy right or when you get pregnant with hormones etc.. you are liable to fall way off the wagon, it is hard to stay on. Good luck!!

 Hi Mell,
Two babies in less than two years! You are brave! :)  But honestly, that's kinda what we wanna do to . . .I'll be interested to hear how it all goes. ;)

I appreciate your input . . . its good to hear of successful and healthy pregnancies after the band.  I am really focusing on getting back to basics right now, it's not easy but I'm just trying to take it one meal at a time!  And I think you are right, (once I get pregnant) I think I will keep my fill as long as feels "responsible."  Now I  just have to help the hubby understand that its safe to do that! :)

Thanks again!  And best wishes on your upcoming miracle!
