It's....a..........

BOYYYYYYYYYYYY!
I had my 19 week utrasound on Tuesday, if you recall my last post, I was nervous that they WOULDN'T tell me the sex of the baby due to these new Canadian laws in the works...but....

I actually had 2 ultrasounds scheduled for that day. One at 2:30 for the baby and one at 5pm for my thyroid both at different clinics (long story, don't ask). So we go for the baby u/s and I had a semi-non-friendly tech that didn't want to make small talk very much with me and wouldn't let my husband in until the last 5 mins. I told her I was super excited and dying to know the sex...before she even turned on the machine she told me that 19 weeks was too early to tell...I said "no way, it's a great time to tell" and she just sort of shrugged her shoulders, so I got nervous as it appeared she wasn't too cooperative. I tried to make small talk during the 30 minute anatomy scan..all of which I was not allowed to watch the screen (till the last 5 minutes) ANNOYING..but apparently routine...so about 5 mins in she says "I see the sex of the baby" so I said "ooooh, ok, don't tell me till my husbandy comes in"..so I wait and wait...finally she's done and he comes in...and I said "soooo...what is it?" and she says "well, it's not 100%, mayb 60%, it's still early to tell, nothing is ever definite at this stage (hello, i'm 19 weeks, I realize nothing can ever be 100%, but provided she can get a good shot between the legs, she must be able to see SOMETHING substantial)....so she said beats around the bush and finally says "well from what I see, it's a boy" and I said "oh, so like what do you see to make you say that? Balls? a Penis?" (lol) and she said "no" and then just sort of rushed us out of the room.
I had visions of us giggling and laughing on the way to the car after we found out, but we just walked in silence, kind of bummed that we sort of knew what we were having, but sort of didn't.

So off to work my hubby goes and I carry on to my thyroid ultrasound at a different clinic. The sign on the wall says to notify them if you're preg, so when I go in I say "Oh, BTW, I'm pregnant"...and then I get this BRILLIANT idea that I am somehow going to talk this unsuspecting tech into checking the baby for me...so she says "oh, congrats, how far along" and I say "19 weeks" in this sad voice and she says "oh, why so sad" so I put on an OSCAR WINNING performance and tell her how I had another u/s somewhere else and we were so excited to find out what we were having and the lady wasn't very nice etc etc..so she says to me "would you like me to take a quick peek to see if I can tell"..so I pretend I'm surprised and I say "oh wow, would you?" so sure enough within 10 seconds she's got the baby on the screen, spread eagle, full genitals showing...and she shows me everything, explains what I'm looking at...confirms it's a boy for sure...
So THANK GOD for this tech! I loved her and she was so nice...now I know where to go for my next (if I get one) ultrasound!

Sorry, this was so long, but kind of a fun story to tell! LOL.

omg that first tech was a complete jerk!!!!! wtf? i don't unserdstand how people like that get jobs working with patients. and bull**** 19 weeks is definitely not too early to tell. she was either having a bad day or is just a complete ***** i'm sorry your experience was ruined by that. but luckily there are nicer ppl out there. glad you got your confirmation!!! congrats!! thats so awesome!! yaaayyy!! baby boy!! ugh i can't wait to find out the sex of my baby! :) :) : )

i wonder why they don't let you see the screen till the end. it makes me think they're poking the baby in all sorts of ways that would make us uncomfortable.

I've had 3 ultrasounds so far this pregancy and in all of them they've never let me see the screen while they're doing their initial scanning. I guess it's so that they can just get their measurements done without any questions from the patient..who knows...It wasn't like that 12 or 18 years ago when I had my other 2 kids..lol..must be new..who knows...once they've got their data they turn the screen around and usually talk their way through a little demo of what's what..
Anyways, I'm glad I found that nice lady that was willing to take a peek! I feel much better knowing what I'm having so I can plan!!! :)

thats so bizzare. i've had 3 ultrasounds and with each one i was facing the screen the entire time. in fact with the last one the u/s tech even made me a cd with pics and video of the baby. i thought that was abover and beyond :)

Congrats on finding out its a BOY!!!  Some techs eh?  I actually was on a cancellation list for an ultrasound to check size and fluid, they called today and I went in.  My tech was nice, I knew she wasn't able to tell me anything or see the screen, so I asked questions not related to the actual test.  I asked if Shaelyn was head down---> YES and I ansked if she could get a good potty shot to just make sure it was still a Girl ---> um, legs are too crossed couldn't see an inch in there- stubborn little girl or very modest....LOL I did ask if she could guesstimate on a weight for me at this point and she said Sorry those results go to your Dr once the radiologist views everything.  SO baby in head down, and still hoping she is a Girl!!  Overall an awesome tech I had today though.  I know she wanted to tell me more but by law she can't.

Congrats again on your BOY!!!

Canada has very strict ultrasound laws that require the tech's to not diagnose and not give info to the patient. I am very thankful that its common in the US for the tech to walk the patient through the exam! Although if there is a problem they usually don't say much and leave it up to the doctor.
Congrats on team blue! :) My baby boy showed us the goods loud and clear at our 18 week ultrasound. 19 weeks is the perfect time just like you said!

Yay! Congrats on your baby boy! I remember having a really awful u/s tech once with my first pregnancy, but at least she was able to give us at least a little more info than yours was allowed to! Glad you had a better experience with your second u/s tech!!!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! We are super excited for our little boy! I have one of each so I wasn't partial either way...just wanted it to be healthy. I have a 18 year old girl and a 12 year old boy from a previous relationship. This will be my hubby's first boy so he's thrilled as can be expected! LOL.
As for these Canadian ultrasound techs...yeah we have different laws here were they can't disclose much to the patient...sucks...but I'm glad this all finally worked out! and I got pics, so that's fun at least!
3D ultrasound is next..and this is through a company that you have to pay for so I will get a DVD, pics, the works...stay tuned..lol

YAY congrats on your boy! Im glad you were able to convince the other tech to take a peek. I had a not so nice tech with my last pregnancy and she wouldnt answer any of my questians and kept the screen all to herself too I was pissed to say the least! And I live in America dammit haha! Go out and buy some blue to celebrate!!
