I am just curious as to weight gain with pregnancy after RNY, I found out I am pregnant in January , I was a few weeks shy of a year post op, I have already gained 15 pounds and I am 22 weeks, with my daughter who is now 8 I gained 13 pounds the entire pregnancy, have you noticed your gain to be rapid and those of you have given birth after surgery was it hard to lose the weight?

It varies by person and pregnancy. I never had children pre-op, so I can't personally make that comparison, but I did not have rapid weight gain in my post-WLS pregnancy; I actually lost weight in my first trimester. It's different for everyone and even can be very different for the same woman from one pregnancy to the next (WLS or not!).

There are a lot of factors at play.  Was your first pregnancy at your heaviest?  If so, you'd likely gain a little more this time being at a better starting weight.  Also, you're 8 years older than the first time, so your body is bound to react to pregnancy differently.  I gained 22 lbs with my pre-op pregnancy, and 18 with my post-op baby... everyone is different!

Just more illustration that everyone is different. I lost weight with my first pregnancy. Starting weight was 351 and on the day I got induced I weighed 345. I lost quite a bit in my first trimester with that pregnancy and then slowly gained some of that loss back, but still was under pre preggo weight. With this pregnancy, I'm still pretty early post-op. Just over 7mos out right now and still in active weight loss phase. I'm also still far from ideal body weight. So I've lost with this one, too. The day I started my last period, I weighed 265.6 and yesterday (13 weeks pregnant) I was at 339.8. I've lost a little more than 25 pounds so far...

I was 17 months post op RNY when I got preg and I'm 19 weeks. I hadn't gained a pound until 14 weeks and now I've gained 8!! I'm freaking as my son (pre-op 12 years ago and my daughter 18 years ago) I only gained 12 and 24 lbs respectively.

I have no idea what to expect, all I know is that I'm hungry and I crave carbs...it's dangerous!

Hi -- I am 37 weeks along and I am 19 months post op from my sleeve.  With my last pregnancy (pre op) -- I started the pregnancy at 321 lbs and I delivered my twins when I topped out 364.  I was back to 321 at 8 weeks after my c section.  With my singleton son I started the preg at 291 and delivered at 336 and was also at prepreg wt 8 weeks after delivery.  This time, I started at 188 and I am 226 now.  I gained a bit more than they wanted me too but I can hardly eat, I have just had more carbs/liquid calories then I do when I'm not pregnant.  I lost 7 lbs in 1st trimester so most my gain was second trimester.... I haven't gained anything in 3 weeks other then a bigger belly.  Also most people comment that I am all belly and haven't seemed to plump up much ( no swelling this time which is weird cuz I used to get MAJORLY swollen)   I will let ya know about the speed of wt loss afterwards...  I'm praying it is decent!   LOL     Good luck!   Amy

I am 10.5 months out from my RNY. I have done well and I am sitting at 198 pounds, down from 338.  I have lost 10 pounds in my first 12 weeks, by my dr said I should try to keep my weight stable and try to gain up to 10 pounds by the end. I was told to up my calories by 300/day.

GL and congrats!
