For the past week, our 3yo daughter has had vomiting episodes. There is no apparent reason for this, but it happens only every other day. Seriously... Started on Sunday, she was fine Mon., had an episode on Tues., was fine yesterday, and has been sick again today. We've been through this once before in December 2010 and it lasted for a whole month. Doctors couldn't figure it out, so we were sent to a pediatric gastroenterologist, but by the time we got to see them, she was no longer having the episodes so it was hard for them to guess what it might've been. Basically we were told to give her probiotics, which we never did because she was fine at that point. Any ideas what might be going on here? I really don't want to go through another 3 weeks of this and come up with no answers again...

Take out Wheat, Modifed Food Starch & Gluten...as if she has Celiac...see if that works.
I wish you all well

That's a tough one... does she have reflux?  Is she vomiting up her entire stomach contents, or is it more like a "vurp"?...

We're going through some fun stomach stuff this week too.  My 3yo is being checked for a myriad of parasites after I fished out what looked like a worm from the toilet... I know, GROSS!  We're hoping it was pretty much anything else!  Hoping to get the results today so that we're not left waiting over the long weekend!  Ick, Ick Ick!

If they recommended probiotics back then, I would start with that now. I give my newborn probiotics in his formula just for general good health. Just start slowly and build up because starting with a full dose right away can sometimes cause issues coming out the other end!

I had the same problem when my son was 2.  He would be fine one minute then saying his tummy hurt and vomiting.  Took him to the dr and was told that he was full of poop.  Put him on miralax same problem.  I did some research and asked my BIL whos a dr about possible lactose allergy cause he was a milk-a-holic.  Sure enough after i switched him to lactose free milk it all stopped.  Now he is almost 5 and can tolerate lactose much better as he seems to be growing out of the whole lactose intolerant thing, which is very common.  Kids can outgrow several allergies just as adluts can grow into them.......lol.  It's something you can try and won't hurt anything at all.

For a probiotic, you could try Culturelle Kids. There's really no way to know what this is though without having an MD look at her.

She was tested for Celiac last time we went through this and it came back negative. She has been on lactose free milk pretty much since she started drinking cow's milk instead of formula. Paula - She has not been tested for reflux, though. Is that something a regular doctor can diagnose, or do I need to try to get her in to see the gastroenterologist again before her symptoms dissipate once again? She's doing a little of both. I think the vomiting episodes usually start out as a "vurp" but once she gets going, she doesn't stop til her tummy is empty. I noticed last night, too, she's got some really sulfuric gas when she belches.

DH and I ended up taking her to the ER last night which was pretty much a waste of time. Doc said "It's probably a tummy bug." Though he did say he could run a urinalysis to rule out a UTI. Sounded like a good idea until 3 different nurses tried to cath her and none of them were successful. At that point, I was mad and I was at my emotional breaking point and having a hard time keeping it together for my baby girl so I told them to forget it. Went home with a rx for Zofran and instructions to follow up with her primary physician. Need to get to the store to get some probiotics today after hubby gets home from work.

Thanks, everyone for your suggestions. It'll give me and her doctor some new ideas of what to test for next, assuming this continues.

I had a similar problem with my daughter. It ended up being thyroid related. Maybe ask to have some blood work done. Good luck.
