is it ok to see a midwife and an OB at the same time?
I'm still looking for a dr. i decided to check out the OB suggested to me by my RE. and i'm also going to check out this birthing center. bottom line, i want to have a water birth. but right now its so early on that i would feel comfortable meeting with an OB and getting some tests taken. I feel like no one is really checking on me. my RE only did bloodwork and ultrasounds. and i had to ask him to check my vitamin levels. i would love for someone to check my blood pressure and all that. i honestly don't know what midwives do but i imagine its not as in depth as OBs. but who knows. so right now i feel more comfortable seeing an OB and meeting with a midwife until i get a better feel for what style i like better.
i'm just wondering, is this an ok thing to do? would either of them get mad if they knew i was seeing the other one? has any one of you used a midwife? maybe you can give me an idea of how it is.

heh, no one should "get mad" about it! How often do people seek a second opinion on medical matters? Or "shop around" for doctors until they find one they really like? Try to remember that these people work for US. Just beware of seeing two different providers from a financial aspect, as insurance may not cover both at the same time without medical necessity for both.
It's absolutely OK to see both. My first pregnancy I was at the UNC clinics in Chapel HIll, NC. I loved their set up. You could choose to see exclusively an OB, or exclusively a midwife or both. THey worked wonderfully together.
As far as care and what the midwife will do. In terms of diagnostics and monitoring, it should be exactly the same as the doc. Standard of care is the same for both!
If no one has checked your vit. levels, demand it. You need to be your own best advocate!
Good luck finding the right 'fit' for you!!
