Pregnancy after WLS
Hi everyone, Please dont' judge, but I had my revision surgery from lapband to RNY on 12/2/11 and I just took a pregnancy test saying that I'm pregnant. I'm so excited, but so worried at the same time. I know that I should have waited 18 months after surgery, but accidents do happen and I found that out. I have tried making my dr appointment to get to my referral started with a OBGYN, but my Dr doesn't have any openings and won't be available until next week. I'm a little worried with this being my first child and just having my surgery. Can anyone give me any advice on how your pregnancy is going if you have got pregnant so soon or even after WLS.
Thank you,
Maria

You'll find that there are quite a few here who got pregnant soon after surgery (even sooner than you), they all seem to have done just fine!
Banded 03/22/06 276/261/184 (highest/surgery/lowest)
Sleeved 07/11/2013 228/165 (surgery/current) (111lbs lost)
Mom to two of the cutest boys on earth.
Thank you. I'm hoping to do fine. I have my referral in for my OBGYN and hope to get in to see them soon. I just found out yesterday and I feel like I'm all over the place and my mind is just going crazy lol!! Thank you for the information and making me feel a little better about how soon it is. I know it happens and I know I should have taken more precautions, Not worth beating myself up over it when there is such a great outcome of having a bundle of joy in 9 months :)
Thank you,
Maria

Hi Maria,
My name is crystal and I am 5 months post op from vertical sleeve and 9 weeks pregnant. I'm there with you I am nervous about how the pregnancy will go. do you have a local wls meeting you can start attending? I have 2 I go to and my bariatric coach who is 3 years post op from bypass is so supportive. you gotta get to the obgyn and I recommend schedule an appt with a nutritionist. our needs are a bit different now and need to be handled with care. congrats by the way! don't worry what other people think as long as you have support from the ones you love. I was told by my obgyn to increase calories by 300 and not to obsess over weight gain or weight loss. so far I've lost 4 lbs in 5 weeks. I found out when I was 4 weeks. so if anything I'm maintaining weight. you will too if you eat as your told. look for an obgyn that specializes in pregnancies like ours. I was told to eat low carb low sugar and high protein ha not much different there. just eat the extra cals. I'm gonna food journal and meet with a nutritionist to find out how many calories I should be eating a day. good luck and keep in touch!

Hi crystal,
Thank you for the information. I just saw my surgeon today and I go see my dietician tomorrow. Congratulations to you as well. It's such a happy moment. I wish I could look for an OBGYN that specializes in pregnancies like ours, but unfortunately I have to go to Naval hospital and I am hoping that they do a good job. I'm really nervous about seeing them because I have heard bad stories with people that weren't even high risk. But maybe that's with every hospital. I'm not sure about the support group, my dr didn't mention this, but I may ask the dietician tomorrow. Thank you so much.
