For those of you who had WLS and became pregnant within the first 6 months post-op:

How did your weight loss go after delivery?
Did you have a hard time with your diet after delivery?

I had a Sleeve Gastrectomy and my weight loss had been slow but I'm still losing gradually. I don't have any trouble tolerating foods and can eat pretty much anything I want.

My fiance is almost 45 years old and has no children. His family is slowly disappearing and he desperately wants a child. He does not want to wait because of his age. I am almost 38 and don't want to wait too long because I worry about the risk of downs syndrome. I so badly want to give him the gift of carrying on his family name and raising a child with someone who I am deeply in love with.
I'm not close to my goal weight yet but I'm not having rapid weight lose. My OB/GYN is not concerned about me getting pregnant but because of my age and the WLS I will have to see the a high risk team. I know the surgeon recommends waiting 12 months but I've got to weigh the pros and cons. My only concern is if I will be able to continue my weight loss after delivery. My sleeve is still going to be there. If I stick to my diet plan after delivery I should be able to get back on track with my weight loss.

I'm just looking for anyone who has experience or words of wisdom.

Six months after my sleeve surgery, I decided that we were ready to try for #2.  I was 6lbs from my goal weight (which would put me at the high end of a normal BMI) and the losing was pretty slow at that point.  Like you, I didn't have any trouble tolerating foods and could eat anything in small quantities.  My labs were all great and I had no problems getting in my fluids or protein.  I got pregnant on the first try and had a very easy uneventful pregnancy.  Neither my surgeon or my OB had any sleeve related concerns for my pregnancy since we don't have to worry about malabsorbtion.  During my pregnancy, I gained 18 pounds and had no issues with food.  (note: my first pregnancy was before WLS and I gained 21 lbs and also had no issues with morning sickness or inability to tolerate foods, so I might just be lucky).  I gave birth in November to a healthy baby boy.  By the time he was 3 weeks old, I had lost the 18 lbs and I am currently 6 lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight.  I've managed to lose weight slowly since he was born even with being pretty lax on my diet.  I keep saying that I'm going to hunker back down, but then Christmas cookies, Easter candy... always finds its way into my mouth.  I've been really bad!  So, I'm sure when I get back to basics I'll be able to drop the last 10 to get down to my "dream goal" weight.

Whatever you decide, talk to your doctors, and make sure that you come to a decision that will be safe for both you and the baby.  Good luck!
