Had my baby on 3/24

I had a perfectly normal, non-induced labor and delivery. I had an epidural, which didn't fully work (still felt sharp uterine pain with every single contraction, though I never felt any pressure or pain from pushing), but I lived to tell the tale :P I was in active labor for less than 12 hours, and I only had to push through 3 contractions (less than 10 minutes), so it was all a bit easier than this first time mother expected it to be! I did have a second degree tear, and my stiches still hurt quite a bit if I'm on my feet for more than a few minutes at a time, but hopefully that will get better soon; it's already much less painful to sit up, which I'm thankful for!
Breastfeeding has been a nightmare, and I finally found out yesterday why - baby is slightly "tongue tied," which means his latch looks correct from the outside (I was told by THREE lactation consultants that everything was correct, so the pain I was experiencing must just have been my own nipple sensitivity), but it's not working properly inside. Lo and behold, his tongue has been pressing my nipple up against the roof of his mouth, which not only hurt me but also inhibited proper milk flow, so he was continuing to lose weight and never pooped once we left the hospital. And, of course, my milk supply never really came in since he wasn't drinking much at all. Now I'm struggling with pumping every 2 hours to try to encourage my supply to come in. Meanwhile, we're giving baby formula and only one bottle per day of breastmilk (it's all I can pump enough for right now). I'm very hopeful that my milk will eventually come in, and we'll be able to switch to more breastmilk, but we will obviously do whatever we need to do for him to be healthy. I will say it's nice to be able to have my husband feed the baby sometimes in the middle of the night so I don't have to be the one doing every single feeding.
From a WLS perspective, I was about 185-187 when I first found out I was pregnant, and I had been stable weight-wise for many months. I lost about 12 pounds in my first trimester down to a low of 175. I gained up to about 217 by the time I went into labor. As of today (one week post-partum), I'm already back down to 199. Baby weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces at birth :)

Congratulations!!! I hope breast feeding improves for you guys! I can't tell you how happy you made me posting your weights today.... I had the same starting weight, had the same 1st trimester lost and I am at 215 now with 8 or so weeks to go.... so although my dietician thinks I am gaining because my metabolism is shot from coming off a "starvation diet" the year before (got pregnnant at 1 yr out) It makes me feel could to see your pp loss! Enjoy your baby! :-) Amy
Congrats Jilly! I've followed your journey from when you first got your surgery. I am also pregnant and have concerns about tears and breastfeeding. Wishing you a speedy recovery and improvement in breast feeding area. I know your little one is having trouble latching on properly, but I also wonder if we as DSers have issues producing enough milk with our malabsorption. I'm worried about the pain of delivery, a tear, and breastfeeding.
