Losing weight DURING pregnancy?
Because I'm only 5.5 months out from my RNY and have over 100lbs to go to get to my goal weight is it okay for me to lose weight throughout this pregnancy? If this week serves as any kind of example of how the next 8 months are going to go, I just might be at goal weight by the time I deliver. I'm not starving myself. Getting in between 1100-1300 calories every day, lots of protein, more carbs than what I was previously allowing and getting plenty of water and staying on top of my vitamins.
Baby seems to have kicked my metabolism into hyperdrive as I've lost 5-6 pounds since this time last week which is faster than I've lost in months! I just don't know whether to be excited about this rejuvenated weight loss or to be worried for my baby.
My nut said baby will pull from my fat stores to get what he/she needs and that all the food I'm consuming at this point (4 weeks, 4 days) is pretty much to keep ME going. Is this true? Should I worry about rapid weight loss? As always thanks in advance for your replies. You all are so helpful :)

I was 14 months post VSG when I got pregnant and had been pretty darn stable with weight prior to pregnancy. I was actually on weigh****chers to try and help lose some more. Well, I've lost nearly 20 more pounds since being pregnant and I'm eating WAYYYYYY more calories than I was before being pregnant! I also blame my metabolism for this. My doctor mentioned my weight loss at my last OB appt, but she was satisfied when I told her I am eating all day long, full fat everything etc. Baby is measuring 2 days ahead, so I know he's getting what he needs. And I take my vitamin religiously. So, it can happen if you're out of the active weight loss phase. I've heard of non surgery folks having the same experience. My hope is that I will be able to lose the last 30 pounds after baby is here! Just stay in close contact with your surgeon and OB!

My weight had been stable for many months before IGot pregnant, so I was not actively losing weight, but I still ended up losing 12 pounds in my first trimester. Not a big deal. However, as the baby grows, I would NOT expect to continue losing as rapidly as you are right now. Please make sure you are taking appropriate supplements and having FREQUENT COMPREHENSIVE labs run to verify that your nitrition is adequate to support your pregnancy (and yourself!).
I'm about the same amount of time out on my surgery and have lost about 13 lbs this trimester so far. It's because I eat even less than before from all the morning sickness. My OB didn't seem to be concerned because I eat every couple of hours, a few bites at a time and she said the baby would get what it needs first. All my labs have come back ok and I take my vitamins so I guess we're both getting what we need. If you end up with the morning sickness too, just eat when you can, try some Emetrol (it's OTC and safe during pregnancy) and contact your dr if you aren't able to eat at all or show signs of dehydration. Oh and food will start to taste different, more so than when you had surgery.. at least that's how it has worked for me.
