Prenatal Vitamins

So my doctor gave me prenatal vitamins after confirming my pregnancy today, but I'm confused. I'm already taking a multi vitamin twice a day that has 100% DV of folic acid and iron. My prenatal has the same amount of folic acid, but has 27mg of iron per tablet instead of 18mg like my multi. Do I replace one of my multi's with a prenatal or do I need to add my prenatal separately? Help would be greatly appreciated. I have an appointment to see my NUT on Wednesday, but want to get started on my prenatals immediately :). Thanks in advance.

I too had RNY and my OB and Bari surgeon both told me to add the prenatal and a high dosage of folic to my existing vite regimin.  So I take multi and prenatals.  The reason why my OB told me to add a high dosage folic is due to my age - I'm 41 and will be 1 month shy of my 42nd bday when my baby is born.  Most pg women are fine with the folic that is in the multi and prenatals.  So just add it in. :-)

Congrats, Momma-to-be!

Thank you very much for your quick reply! :) I'll put my prenatal in between my evening calcium doses! Think I may need to look for a bigger pill organizer! This is #2 for me, but this pregnancy is going to be a little different than my last! Congrats on your bundle of joy as well! :)

I switched to the prenatal because the A vit in the regular one a day multi was the wrong A! You want only the beta carotene A!! Talk to your nutritionist and see what they want you to do!
