I know there is a PS chat, but more people respond here. I would like to know your guys opinions on having excess skin removal before pregnancy (LBL to be specific)....I know some people wait and do it after...and some have chosen to do it before. What are your thoughts and reasons for thinking that way? Do you know anyone who has done it - if so how did it turn out for them after their pregnancy?

I chose to wait on my tummy tuck. Only reason is because our insurance will ONLY cover ONE cosmetic procedure, and it has to be medically documented. I knew we were going to get pregnant, and I carry ALL my excess weight in my stomach. I also have 2 friends who had TT before pregnancy, one ended up with no issues other than some stretching and  with time/good genes and skin resulted in little stretch, the other ended up with a "pooch", like a huge muffin top on her upper abdomen that she later had surgery to remove via a vertical incision tummy tuck of sorts. Neither were WLS patients.

I gained a whopping 35lbs with my recent pregnancy, and all of my weight came right back to my stomach. I have about 10 pounds left to lose, and my skin is stretched back out tremendously. With only a 10lb difference from my pre-pregnancy weight, I'm in a solid size 8/10, before pregnancy I was a size 2. I'm waiting until my skin bounces back before proceeding with any plastics.

I'm waiting. Why fix it up just to stretch it out again?  :P

Honestly, even though I have a LOT of icky hanging skin, I'm not sure I'll ever have it removed - I just have a hard time spending that much money on myself, and insurance won't cover it without basically making up some sort of medical necessity excuse (and it would really be an excuse since I don't have any funky rashes or anything, and I'm not about to commit insurance fraud by CAUSING skin irritations intentionally as I've read of others doing). Even if I did have the money, I'm sure I could find better uses for it - amazing vacations, in-ground pool, nice new family vehicle, kids' college funds...but then, I am (and always have been) quite tight with my money!

Hi there.  I spoke w/a plastic surgeon when I was losing my excess weight and I asked him about PS or PG first.  He said to definitely have PS AFTER pregnancies because the baby will stretch out the skin and muscles that they tighten up during PS.  He also said to wait until all of the baby weight is gone and the body's weight has been stablized for 6 months.  So that's my plan... have this baby, then drop the weight again and stablize for 6 months then I'm gonna have at least a panni-be-gone!  hahaha.  That will give me plenty of time to save up the money cuz 95% of PS is NOT covered by insurance these days.

Good luck to ya!
