So im 6 yrs post op, im 5wks 3 days pregnant with my 4th child but the first post op also have a possible hernia never been offically diagnosed.

Question 3: My insurance has changed in the last 6 yrs will this be considered a pre existing ive never had a diagnoses for a hernia so im sure if they will cover it.
Question 4: weight gain I know I have to eat well and probably even more calorie intake to produce a healthy baby! How hard has it been to get the baby weight off after?
Thank you in advance

I too have a hernia.... i developed an umbilical hernia due to my last preg 4yrs ago. Due to the massive weight loss 200lbs it is now more of a ventral hernia ( area above the belly button). I was concerned about delivery with a hernia of this nature. I had a c-section with the last baby due to delivery complications but was hoping for a v-bac with this one. So i asked my OB about the saftey of delivery with a ventral hernia and she said there should be no problems.....wahoo. I am currently 14wks and do get some discomfort at times with the hernia due to the gas and bloating. I am a nurse so i know when to become alarmed if there were to be a problem. Also, i find some relief at times just using a spanx and will prob purchase a maternity spanx in the furture just to give it some added support. As far as being pre-existing if it hasn't been diagnosed it doesn't exist to your insurance. However if you told your doc and they documented in you chart using your word (it does happen) then it exist. Hope i help you. Good luck and congrats.

Hi and welcome to the board! With all 4 of my pregnancies (2 post-op) I had little to no morning sickness. Each pregnancy is different! I'm not sure if you would need a c-section because of your hernia, but I'm sure if you did, they could also take care of the hernia as well! I'm also not sure if your new insurance would consider it a pre-existing condition or not. I would think that if you didn't have it diagnosed in the past, they would cover it. When I think about people I know who had hernias, they were able to get it covered by insurance. Regarding calories and weight gain, it's said a pregnant lady only needs 300-400 extra calories to substain a healthy pregnancy. I gained 30-35lbs with my 1st post-op baby (I was 4.5 years out from surgery) and lost all but 8lbs of it at my 6 week check-up. Over the next 1.5 years I gained an additional 12lbs before I got strict with myself and made changes to loose the extra weight. With my 2nd post-op pregnancy I gained around 45lbs and still holding on to almost 30 of those pounds (I had my son a little over 3 months ago). It has been very difficult trying to loose the extra weight this time around. I will drop a few pounds and then gain them right back, but I know there are more things I can do and try to be successful! But dont' let my story distract you because there are many woman on this board that lost the baby weight very fast and many who even lost weight after the baby was born. Just like each pregnancy is different, so is each person with gaining and loosing the weight! Best of luck to you!

Each pregnancy can be different, even for the same woman. I'm pregnant with my first, but I had pretty much no morning sickness at all. And I know from blood tests that my HCG levels were quite high!
Question 2: will I have to have a C section because I have a hernia or will i be able to delivery normally?
I would think it depends on the hernia - that's a doctor question!
Question 3: My insurance has changed in the last 6 yrs will this be considered a pre existing ive never had a diagnoses for a hernia so im sure if they will cover it.
If it has never been officially diagnosed, then it should NOT be considered a pre-existing condition.
Question 4: weight gain I know I have to eat well and probably even more calorie intake to produce a healthy baby! How hard has it been to get the baby weight off after?
Can't speak to losing baby weight since I'm 33 weeks along with my first, but I can say I haven't gained too much during my pregnancy (actually lost during my firsttrimester), so I'm pretty confident I'll be able to get most, all, or even more of it off post-baby.
