I had weight loss surgery in march 2011. I am now 18 weeks pregnant. I have very little energy and i am so exhausted I cant hardly make it thru my work day. Does anyone have any suggestions for more energy? With my last pregnancy I had an incompetent cervix. I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had this problem in the passed and did gastric bypass help or did it reappear when you got pregnant again. thanks

As for the energy I cant help you maybe have doctors check your labs and make sure vitamins levels are OK.
With my first son I had no problems with cervix that was before my gastric by pass.I had a twin pregency at 19 months out from surgery and had to have a cerclage put in for me it didnt help but I had infection that caused my water to break.
This time around my cervix shorten have no cerclage and Im on total complete bed rest and cervix is holding at 2.1 well has been I'll see Thur when I see my high risk doctor.

I dont really think gastric bypass makes a difference its all in your cervix.I will send many prayers your way.

May my Angles rest in peace.....

I would have to agree with Jennifer that the surgery doesn't have any effect on cervix. I had a problem with my cervix with my last pregnancy (before surgery). I had my rny in March 2011 and right now I'm 27 weeks pregnant and have the same problem. My cervix shortened to 2.2 around 14 weeks and was put on bed rest and given weekly progesterone shots. It held at 2.2 until about 2 weeks ago when it shortened to 1.5. They couldn't do a cerclage because I also have placenta previa. I was admitted to the hospital and they will keep me here until Thursday when I'm 28 weeks.
As for energy, make sure that besides having your labs checked, you have added some complex carbs to your diet. I also had to eat more frequently then usual in order to keep energy levels up.  Good luck and congratulations!

I also agree that the cervix issue won't change based on your RNY. Make sure your OB/GYN is keeping a close eye on that. As for the energy, yes, get your labs checked. This pregnancy I started out anemic and I have been so tired the entire pregnancy (I am now 33 weeks pregnant). I am going for my innitial appointment on Monday to start the process of getting iron infusions. I had them for my last pregnancy as well. It is really important that you make sure your iron levels are good and that you don't go into labor with super low iron. Losing all that blood during delivery is tough enough without adding anemia on to it. Make sure they check your other vit levels too though. Low Vit D or B12 could make you tired too.

Good luck!

My OB said that weight loss has nothing to do with the cervix becoming stronger.  I too thought if I'd lost all this weight, why wouldn't it decrease pressure or something?  But, to no avail, he had to burst my bubble!  Good Luck!!
