Hubby's 44... too old for a baby?

Hi all,

I'll be having VSG in less than a month and I'm stoked! One of the things I'm looking forward to is ovulating again (thanks PCOS!) I'm aware of the need to wait 12-18 months and that'll put my husband at 44 and me at 33. I'd love to hear from others out there in this age range... what are the goods and bads of having a first baby later in life? Thanks for the input!

I am 39 and will be 40 the day after baby is due, Hubby is turning 44 this year.  This is our first, we had a hard haul getting here, but we are now 14weeks 4 days along.  We have been trying for almost 18 years.  I have severe pcos and since my rny a few years ago I started ovulating, something I rarely did before surgery, I have been pregnant 4 previous times in the past 2 years all resulting in mc's but so far #5 is sticky.  Good Luck!!!

Congrats and so happy this pregnancy is working out!! Did/do you and your hubby have any reservations about having a child later in life? I can see the good and the bad. Kinda freaks me out he'll be retirement age when the child graduates HS!

No reservations, but kinda thought the same thing about DH retiring when the child graduates.  I also looked at it this way, when my child decides to make us Grandparents (hopefully one day) if they decide to do it early  we will be of grandparent age.  LOL  Not like my mom becoming a grandma at 38 thanks to my brother.  We are just excited to be having a baby and getting a chance to raise a child.  I do believe we are too old to consider adoption (not totally checked out this theory) so we feel our options were slimming.

My father was 49 when I was born, and I also have a younger sister, he was 51 when she was born. My Mom was younger, obviously. I had a great childhood and he was an amazing father: mature, respectful, and most importantly ready to be a parenty. He had already had his *glory* days long before I was born or he met and married my Mom. Being older meant he had finished his education, had a stable career and income, and was able to provide a roof over his kid's head and food on the table. I never felt "weird" having an older Dad, he was just MY Dad. It was weird being the youngest of all the cousins and some of my cousins are in their 40's, 50s and my aunts and uncles on my Dad's side got confused as my grandparents, and even my Dad, but oh well. I think to each his own and 44 is not OLD to have kids.

Not too old at all!! My hubby was 44 when we have our first son and Im pregnant now and he will be 49 next month. So no I dont think it's too old. My hubby is still very active with our 5 year old and enjoys t-ball with him.

 I gave birth in Nov 11 I had just turned 40 husband is 61 and still looks hot.  It does not matter the age.  He can keep up with our daughter through all night not sleeping and he is still going strong.

Ditto what the others said! My hubby turned 41 3 days after our last baby was born and I will be 39 at the end of this month! I have 2 older children from a previous marriage and we have a 3.5 year old and 3 month old together. I find I have more tolerance now then I did in my 20's. I think there are many great reasons to have kids later. I too worry about the ages we will be when the younger 2 are out of school and I hope we will be able to see all our grandbabies! Nowadays people are living longer than they did years back due to better life styles! I say go for it!

wow - Maui, I remember us being pregnant together last time (not long ago) - I am 4 weeks along - I am 39 now and my husband is 48 and fantastic xxx
